Ranunculus

Oh yeah, for you.

Ranunculus, which means radiant charm.

Yellow roses, which means joy.

And then the fern for the greenery means shelter.

Um, but they're easy to deal with.

And, you know, I've got a couple of Ranunculus annual species in here.

Did you direct seed that or has that come up by itself?

They came up by themselves.

But oftentimes I'll start with Buttercup because, you know, we're in the same family.

We're in the ranunculaceae family.

And Buttercup is so helpful.

I think sometimes Columbine is one step further than somebody might be.

They might need their first step to be with Buttercup to realize that they have value in and of themselves.

They don't even need to do anything for anybody else.

They're good enough the way you are.

All the plants have a high northern range, and one, the dwarf Arctic birch, is never found at sea level in latitudes as far south as the Dogger Bank, except very rarely in the Baltic provinces of Germany.

The plants already found are Ranunculus lingua, Castalia alba, Cochlearia species, Lychnis flos-cuculi, Arenaria trinervia, Spiraea ulmaria, Rubus fructicosus, Epilobium species, Galium species, Valeriana officinalis, Menyanthes trifoliata, Lycopus europaeus, Atriplex patula, Betula alba, Betula nana, Corylus avellana, Salix repens, Salix aurita, Sparganium simplex, Alisma plantago, Potamogeton natans, Rupia rostrata, Scorpus species, Carex species, Phragmitis communis.

Among the nine species of beetle determined by Mr. G.C. Champion, it is noticeable that two belong to sandy places.

This suggests that the fen may have had its seaward edge protected by a belt of sand dunes, just as the coast of Holland is at the present day.

The list of plants is still a small one, but it may be worth giving to show what species can be identified.

It must not be forgotten that in such deposits, plants which do not possess either deciduous leaves or hard seeds leave no recognizable traces, though they may have been quite as abundant as the hazel, of which everyone notices the nuts.

The seeds belong to Ranunculus flammula, Ranunculus repens, Ranunculus scirulus, Viola, Molochium aquaticum, Stellaria media, Lychnis flos-cuculi, Rubus fruticosus, Calatrichi, Cornus sanguinea, Sambucus nigra, Aster tripolium, Solanum dulcanara, Ajuga reptans, Seweda maritima, Atramis petula, Rumus.

I listened in great wonder and looked about me until I saw a daisy in which stood a little figure not larger, certainly, than one of its petals.

When I was between three and four years old, we removed to London, and I pined sadly for my country home and friends.

I saw none of them for a long time.

They are flowers of patience and quiet strength.

Ranunculus have dozens of paper-thin petals layered tightly.

Ranunculus flowers look almost too perfect to be real, as though crafted from tissue paper by a meticulous artist.

Each bloom contains dozens of thin, delicate petals tightly packed in a spiral pattern, creating a rounded, full flower.

The petals unfurl gradually, with the bloom growing larger and more open over several days.

Ranunculus come in nearly every color, often with gradients or subtle variations in shade that add depth.

They are native to Asia and are popular in spring bouquets and gardens.

The flowers grow from claw-like tubers that resemble tiny dried creatures.

I am afraid to tell you their names, or even to give them any names which other children have been ever called by, because to my certain knowledge, authors sometimes get themselves into great trouble by accidentally giving the names of real persons to the characters in their books.

For this reason, I mean to call them Primrose, Periwinkle, Sweetfern, Dandelion, Blue-eye, Clover, Huckleberry, Cowslip, Squash-blossom, Milkweed, Plantain, and Buttercup.

Although, to be sure, such titles might better suit a group of fairies than a company of earthly children.

It is not to be supposed that these little folks were to be permitted by their careful fathers and mothers, uncles, aunts, or grandparents to stray abroad into the woods and fields without the guardianship of some particularly grave and elderly person.

Now, Eustace Bright, you must know, had won great fame among the children as a narrator of wonderful stories.

And though he sometimes pretended to be annoyed when they teased him for more and more and always for more, yet I really doubt whether he liked anything quite so well as to tell them.
