Burnsville

Mountain Strong, formed by friends in Yancey County, initially coordinated medical care, transportation and financial aid.

It now runs a mental health clinic in Burnsville and hopes to add primary care.

Similar groups are repairing homes and connecting survivors with housing, employment, health care, and case management.

Most public roads are repaired, but homes and businesses still need work.

Mm-hmm.

It was hard to raise her up because Burnsville, in particular, just became the epicenter of meth.

Mm.

But when we could raise her up, she would put out a, a call for help, and then Dave would let me know which churches could take supplies over in Henderson County because the people in this area had not lost all of those.

We think it would be cool." We th- They thought that my place over there was really cool.

Um, but they were from here in Burnsville.

My old place was in Spruce Pine, the next town over.

And, uh, they offered it to me, and it's a, it's a really little place.

Uh, let's see.

I'll turn my, my sign on here and show you kinda where we're at.

So we're in Burnsville, which is outside of Asheville.

Originally, when I came, uh, down here, we lived in Asheville for three years, but, um, Asheville's an expensive place to live, and we wanted to, um, have some acreage and stuff like that and do our homestead thing.

And we are in that day, amen.

I don't care if we're living in Burnsville, amen, the church capital of the world, or down in Marion, amen, the other church capital of the world in McDowell County, amen.

I'm just saying tonight, amen, it seems everywhere you go up there, there's churches everywhere.

When I travel down 19, there's church here, church there, church everywhere.

I'm happy to leave it for the bees.

And speaking of honey tasting contests, if you are in the Western North Carolina area, on October 15th at Home Place Pub in Burnsville, North Carolina, we will have our, I think it might be the 11th annual Black Jar Honey Tasting Contest.

We have it every year.

It's a fundraiser for our club.

If you pay $10, you get to be one of the judges and taste all the honeys and put your vote in for who's got the best tasting honey in Mitchell, Avery, and Yancey counties.

There are some fine areas in terms of honey tastes.

So October 15th in the evening, I think it's probably around 6 o'clock, please, if you are within driving distance of Burnsville, it is a fun time.
