Burns

Well, we cannot take all the people of the world, but all the people of the world.

You find me one place that they don't all have cell phones, that they can't find out what the prevailing rate of wages is in Loop City, Nebraska, or in Burns, Oregon, or Ely, Nevada.

Mm-hmm.

And they're going to want to come here.

So they made that conversion, and in some ways, it sort of brought the community together.

I know that in Burns, Oregon, where the Desert Historic Theater is, and that's the first guy you meet in the film.

His name is Tiny Peterson.

And this...

I was haying, and they were having this deal at the Elks Club.

The Elks was sponsored in Burns.

It was a high school rodeo or something.

Anyhow, they had this world champion buffalo riding, and I challenged two or three people as a reason to get them to go to it and to participate.

Then we broke them up into smaller outfits.

Now we're going back.

Well, Miller and Lux, the history, the legend, that you could go from Harper, Oregon, Burns, Oregon, to Bakersfield, California, and either sleep on company land or in the company bunkhouse.

It was a huge operation.

Yeah, many of them did, actually.

The town of the first one we see in the film, the Desert Historic Theater in Burns, Oregon.

It surprised me because the theater is practically, you can barely even see it on the main street.

It doesn't even have a marquee.
