A number of Perth beaches are due to reopen this afternoon after they were temporarily shuttered following a fatal shark attack at Sorrento.

The city of Shundalup says the beaches from Burns Beach in the north to Marmion in the south were closed until midday today as a precaution.

WA police say the remains of a man were found in the water after he was bitten by a shark during a swim off the coast, the second attack in the last week.

A surfer is now in a stable condition after he was attacked on Monday at Glenfield Beach, north of Geraldton, in the state's Midwest.

The City of Joondalup is considering the establishment of additional coastal dog exercise areas as local petition pressure grows, according to a report by Perth Now.

A petition signed by more than 1,100 residents will be formally presented to the council requesting a new off-leash location along the rocky stretch of Burns Beach.

Council officers are currently drafting a comprehensive 10-year dog management plan with potential new beach locations to go before council in November.

Meanwhile, in neighbouring Wanneroo, Yanchep residents have urged the council to reject plans for a $43.5 million foreshore redevelopment over severe environmental and safety concerns regarding a proposed coastal boardwalk.
