What do the railways at Rose Grove, Whittlesea and Huish have in common? The answer is that the names of the railway infrastructure have different spellings from the town or village where they're found.
Richard BowkerHOST
60:04
So Rosegrove in Burnley is two separate words in a railway context, but it's one word locally elsewhere.
Richard BowkerHOST
60:11
Whittlesea in Cambridgeshire is S-E-Y in the town, but it's C-S-E-A as in ocean.
Richard BowkerHOST
60:18
for the railway and huish on the Bristol to Exeter route is spelt with an EW when on a railway context and just with a U when you're talking about the village.
DaveHOST
32:34
And I tell you what, if we get to that point, we're still doing this podcast and I recovered, I'll come do Clash of Kings UK.
DaveHOST
32:42
Because my girlfriend's from Burnley from the UK.
DaveHOST
32:43
So she wants to go back over and do all that stuff.
DaveHOST
32:46
So we'll lock that in.
Karen LiveseyGUEST
23:31
But I thought, actually, I need to reach out a bit more in the east side and get a nice smart hotel and invite our guest speakers, etc., etc.
Karen LiveseyGUEST
23:38
update in eight will be quite a nice chunky project we're delivering training to do with child criminal exploitation we're doing the child sexual exploitation January February I've got three new trainers well yeah two are new two aren't four trainers delivering the child sexual exploitation CPD course for the University of Lancashire at Preston and Burnley sites and then there's other things in the pipeline to do with further reach with missing from people and the police that I want to develop and And so it goes on and we've just got two new volunteers, one who's a wonderful PhD student from the University of Lancashire who's really keen and wants to do more with us and we need to grow our website and we need to do more resources and we need to grow.
Karen LiveseyGUEST
24:19
We need to do everything, don't
KathHOST
24:21
we? So hopefully this will help with visibility and obviously we'll be sharing this and we'll share the links to No Whisper CIC as well.
Oliver RyanGUEST
18:15
And there's a lot of people complain about the UK electoral system, as there will be in lots of other countries, I have no doubt.
Oliver RyanGUEST
18:21
But I think what our system manages to do is it tells politicians, if you want to get elected, you have to build a broad church that appeals to people in Burnley, in the north of England, as much as it does to people in Kensington, the middle of London.
Oliver RyanGUEST
18:33
and the Highlands of Scotland and the sort of beautiful coastal towns of Cornwall.
Oliver RyanGUEST
18:38
And when we got Labour elected in 24, that's what we managed to do.
Oliver RyanGUEST
18:42
You know, Westminster votes Labour as much as Burnley votes Labour, as much as the Highlands of Scotland in some parts vote Labour and parts of Cornwall vote Labour.
Oliver RyanGUEST
18:52
You have to build that coalition.
Oliver RyanGUEST
18:56
What do I think we could probably learn or what I think we have to learn is, as I say, I'm a believer in progressive politics, but a politics that respects voters and sort of meets them where they are.

Oliver RyanGUEST
32:12
I think he's a man that has Britain's best interests at heart.
James HartHOST
17:59
So a bit of a Disney legend, a bit of a Disney icon.
James HartHOST
18:02

James HartHOST
18:07
OK, I am a Burnley fan.
James HartHOST
18:10

James HartHOST
18:11
And as soon as I saw that, I was like, yeah, it makes sense.
James HartHOST
18:14
That's where he's from.
CharlieHOST
34:36
And then...
CharlieHOST
34:37
You've got kind of the Lancashire and the North West in Preston, Blackburn, Bolton, Burnley.
CharlieHOST
34:45
And then you've kind of just got us.
CharlieHOST
34:49
We're just a bit out of the way.
Philip McCannGUEST
21:00
So you look about the kind of left behind town type of narrative.
Philip McCannGUEST
21:03
Well, I can think of Lancashire, for example, places like Burnley, Blackburn, Blackpool.
Philip McCannGUEST
21:08
They've had a very, very difficult time.
Philip McCannGUEST
21:11
last 40 or 50 years, they have been left behind.
Rory BryceHOST
25:38
because obviously that would, well they would assume that it's been more industrialised, or they would think of other places in Massachusetts, I don't know if they're really tuned into the history, they'd maybe think of like Plymouth or somewhere like that.
Rory BryceHOST
25:48
Fall River seems a, despite the industry, it seems a strange place for football to crop up, but it's because of these people from Lancashire, mainly, well largely Preston, and places like Burnley where they had these historic mills, and Lancaster, who already had thriving football clubs, thriving football scenes, they had the knowledge to then take it with them, that Boston, from the reading that I've done, just didn't really have the space for.
Tom McCabeGUEST
26:12
So there is a pro team, that first league that Kirk referenced, and it's in Boston, right, with this very idea, right? Let's send it to Beantown, the big town, but it's stocked with Fall River players, as well as the Brooklyn team, a great Fall River player, Dennis Shea, Denny Shea, Great American goalkeeper is kind of the player coach of that Brooklyn team.
Tom McCabeGUEST
26:34
And when Brooklyn plays Fall River, it's like cousins, brothers playing.
Guy CharnockHOST
8:02

Guy CharnockHOST
