Burlesque Hall of Fame

She is an absolute icon, dreamboat, and one of the top performers in the She's performed with Dita Fontes.

She has performed at the Burlesque Hall of Fame numerous times.

She's been on the Burlesque Top 50 list more times than I could count.

And she's just amazing.

My family is from Monterrey and from Oaxaca as well as San Luis Potosi in Mexico.

I have been performing burlesque since about 2008 and I am currently the reigning runner-up princess of the Burlesque Hall of Fame.

Hi, my name is Jacqueline Box.

I am a disabled burlesque performer.

I perform using my wheelchair and my canes.

I have performed at the Burlesque Hall of Fame four times in total and I was the first performer to bring a mobility aid into the competition at the Burlesque Hall of Fame in 2017 and I'm really really happy to be here and I see Veronica here.

Hello I'm Veronica Yoon um Thanks for having me.

And that's one of those things that... you know, when people back in the day would ask me like, oh, how do you get good at emceeing or good on the mic? And I'm like, you fail at it a million times.

I mean, I was, you know, it's like you do five nights a week at some place and you just bomb and bomb and bomb until you get good, you know? And so that was kind of where things started for me in terms of once I sort of got good at stuff there, I started getting hired out to other burlesque venues and eventually emceed the Burlesque Hall of Fame, which is the big worldwide competition in Vegas.

Yeah.

So Dita heard about me because we had a few colleagues in common, some folks who had been working for her for a while, who I'd emceed for, and they all recommended me.

And all of their drag has always mostly been burlesque anyway.

And now they're hosting all the burlesque shows all over.

They go to the Burlesque Hall of Fame as well.

I kind of wish that I had done that.

Da, da, da, da, da, da.

And if you don't know anything about Lovey, which I didn't until I talked to her, Lovey is actually a sing and flinger, and she is 80 years old and is a Burlesque Hall of Fame legend.

So this is somebody who's been in the industry and knows their shit.

Um, and I was shocked because they, they wore a jumpsuit that was very similar to my awards jumpsuit, jumpsuit that I wear, and they wore it the day before at a performance, and they were hosting.

And honestly, I argue that sugar culture in the United States wouldn't be what it is now if it wasn't for Latinidad and we're constantly pushed out of it on a regular basis.

I think that's one of the things I really loved when you personally headed creating the Latin American exhibit at Burlesque Hall of Fame, when they had the brick and mortar.

I'm still so sad I wasn't able to physically go there myself, but literally watch.

I was obsessed.

I do it every year.

We sponsor X amount of people.

At this point, it's in the hundreds that we sponsor to apply to Burlesque Hall of Fame, making money for the museum.

And and allowing people to not have the financial availability.
