One of the many legends states that a man named Bunyip broke the Rainbow Serpent's greatest law by eating his totem animal.

Vanished by the spirit, Byami, the man became an evil spirit and lured tribesmen and their livestock into the waters so he could devour them.

What makes the Bunyip scary... is that it's a legendary water monster formed from the Aboriginal Australian mythology that lurks in deep rivers and swamps, terrifying people with its bloodthirsty nature and loud booming cries or screams at night that echo across the water.

It also uses sorcery to lure in its victims.

So, what's badass about Bunyip? Well, it was used as a warning for children and adults about the extreme and unpredictable dangers of deep inland waters.

So, instead of telling kids to be afraid of sharks, you just tell them to beware of the bunyip, and it's not a bunny.
