Muscatine's K9 Six will be getting a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from the nonprofit organization called Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., the Muscatine Police Department announced Wednesday.

Six's vests will be embroidered with the sentiment, "Honoring those who served and sacrificed." Delivery is expected within 10 weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501[c][3] charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States.

According to the news release issued Wednesday by the Muscatine Police Department, the K9 body armor is made in the US, custom fitted, and certified by the National Institute of Justice.

Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 6,677 vests valued at 6.9 million to K9s in all 59- 50 states.
