Building Act 1984

It's worthwhile touching base on what the regulatory landscape was prior to the Building Safety Act.

So before 2017, the building regulations were set by primary legislation via the Building Act 1984 and the Building Regulations 2010.

Grenfell Tower occurred in 2017, which was the catastrophic systemic failure of the entire regulatory system.

And that was confirmed by the Grenfell Tower Phase 2 report published by Sir Martin Moore Bick in 2024.
