it used MAC addresses from the BSSIDs nearby and looked it up in a database.

So there are other technologies that give you some level of location.

What level of accuracy is AFC looking for here?

It uses cellular tower triangulation if it's available.

But it also uses Bluetooth beacons if they're around.

And it also uses what you were referring to is the Wi-Fi positioning because both Google and Apple have these huge crowdsourced databases of BSSIDs and SSIDs from all over the world, right? And they use that to help the locationing indoors.

And it's been proven that all those inputs together outperforms GPS, okay? And by the way, smartphones also have other hardware devices.

Well, what else can we perceive from that? Huh, interesting.

Well, you can take the BSSID, besides the Wi-Fi name, Camel, It also gives out what's called the BSSID.

Now, your cell phones are a big kicker and bleeder of information.

They will try to attach to your home or the last known Wi-Fi access point they can't.

And it will sit there and try to jump onto your home network While you're out and about, so when you're in New York, it's trying to get to you or you're traveling about.

Now, there are some gotchas on that.

There is a public listing of BSSIDs that's out on the Internet.

You can find out where that phone is.

Uh, I, I did a PCAP earlier in my infra and it, it wasn't there.

I didn't have any multiple BSSIDs.

Um, [lip smack] so yeah.

So I would say check, do a PCAP on, on 6 gigahertz and see what happens.
