Bryce West

And Penn State kind of steals this one at the end.

You had the other sequence on third down where it was Bryce West and Marvin Burks Jr. over there.

They just consistently made the right plays and it happened at every level.

So yeah, I mean, this defense, and I know that Mason Post has had a lot of confidence in this group, and he's part of it, but felt like what he saw, not that it confirmed what he already knew, but for them to go do it on the big stage and hold Penn State the way that they did says a lot about, I think, what's possible for the defense.

Uh, they brought in Ja'Von Robinson to start at one cornerback spot, and there was a lot of hype, uh, for him, you know, especially coming out of fall camp, saying, "Yeah, he's the dude," and, you know, "He's someone who, who's gonna be a true leader and gonna be a step-up guy." I personally haven't seen it yet.

I think the best, uh, cornerback so far has been Bryce West, who's been playing the nickel.

He's a transfer from Ohio State who was a former high four-star recruit.

I've been pretty impressed with him so far, but he's really the only guy, uh, there.

Some of the guys that we were like, what? Why is he leaving? Or what happened there? Some of those guys, how are they doing at their new stop? And how did Ohio State adapt to them leaving? So just running through the games last weekend, when we look at some of the guys that I think are surprising guys, guys that we weren't expecting to leave.

I guess we can start with Aaron Scott Jr. who came in as a five-star, right? Ohio kid in the same class with Bryce West.

These two guys, two Ohio kids, a five-star Bryce was a, was a, was a blue chipper from Glenville.

And you bring these guys in, they look like the future in the cornerback room and, and, Aaron Scott was making a little bit of hay on special teams in 2025.

So it's not going good for Aaron Scott.

And it looks like most likely at this point, he's never going to be a guy who makes an impact at this level of college football.

Bryce West, his running mate in that class, Bryce got paid a ton of money to go to Wisconsin.

Wisconsin infused, they admitted that they went the wrong route with Luke Fickle by not funding his program.

The guy that I think is the most physically talented is Bryce West.

He does a lot of really good stuff.

And so you mentioned the increased role for Zay Robinson on offense.

And, you know, maybe I'm just kind of doing this live here in the moment, but...

The point of this offense is to draw in guys like Bryce West into the run game and make them wish that they hadn't.

So if you're going to run a 4-2-5 and run a nickel the entire time, which is what this team does, Penn State wants to make you pay for that by playing two tight ends a lot.

So...

He hasn't really been targeted too much.

And then Bryce West is a good tackler.

There are key attributes in that group that look really awesome.

but they also haven't really put it all together and played like this great, you know, defensive effort from the secondary.

I'm not trying to say he's a one trick pony, but all the big plays you're thinking of outside of maybe two or three have come in this one particular way.

Wisconsin has a corner named Bryce West.

He's an Ohio State guy.

I'd say he is the best physical comp to what Kobe Howard has been in the slot.

He is going to eat their lunch or they're going to dedicate so many resources to him that the run game and other receivers are going to be wide open.

The opportunity will be there.

They have to capitalize in those opportunities, right? Or they play one-on-one, and it's Bryce West versus Kobe Howard.

And in that situation, playing man coverage opens up a lot of stuff for other receivers as well.
