Bryan WilliamsGUEST
So, so, you know, really, uh, worried about that, whether, whether I'd measure up or not.

Bryan WilliamsGUEST
And, and then of course, going to apartheid South Africa, um, just wondering how, how you're gonna be treated.

Bryan WilliamsGUEST
So when, when the plane touched down in Johannesburg, I've told this story many times, I, I actually had a panic attack and I, I j- I didn't want to get off the plane.

Bryan WilliamsGUEST
And, and I virtually had to be coaxed off, off the plane by, uh, by my teammates.

Bryan WilliamsGUEST
Uh, and, and, you know, took one step after the other, and before I knew it, um, you know, I, out on the field scoring a try, and I was an All Black.

Bryan WilliamsGUEST
... remember going back to the room and, um, just being absolutely, uh, awestruck.
Sharp rise in retail businesses shutting up shop

Well, remembering that we're looking at liquidations and they're just the tip of the iceberg.
B

And there is, of course, a very large number underneath that tip that is still suffering and will continue to suffer until they can either tidy up their balance sheet by increased profits, which I think is going to be a tough challenge.
B

Or capital investment, which itself will be an almost impossible ask, I would think.

And I doubt that the spring or the political offerings that may come about in the coming months or Christmas is really going to deal with many, many companies that really have some difficult situations to confront.

Uh, Scott, we've had, I guess, two shows in the past, uh, just recently at the Shot Show, uh, in January.

Um, [coughs] background, um, gosh, 38 years almost, well, 39 years, um, in local government.

Came here to Central Texas, uh, served as a police chief for a little over eight years, and ended up at City Hall.

Heart failure: can you mend a broken heart?
6:27

Chris SmithHOST
How would they investigate it? How do you diagnose that someone has heart failure?
B
6:32Bryan WilliamsGUEST
We often do a chest X-ray to look, see whether there's any congestion in the lungs, which we can see.
B
6:37Bryan WilliamsGUEST
Um, we'll always do an ECG to see whether there's any abnormalities that we can see on the ECG that gives us a clue to what might be causing the heart failure.
B
6:46Bryan WilliamsGUEST
A simple blood test is now available called natriuretic peptide, which we, we can just send off to the lab.
B
6:54Bryan WilliamsGUEST
And if your heart is struggling, the heart muscle itself produces, uh, this hormone, uh, natriuretic peptide, and the levels go up in the blood.
B
7:03Bryan WilliamsGUEST
So that is a pretty good way of determining whether somebody's breathlessness is likely to be related to heart failure.
