Bruce Waltke

Yes.

To paraphrase one of the foremost scholars on the Book of Proverbs, a man named Bruce Waltke, he states that there is an inseparable connection between embracing the virtues of wisdom and enjoying the benefits of wisdom.

Wow.

Yeah.

No wonder when Paul is encouraging the Corinthian church in their giving to support, uh, the, the church in Jerusalem who were going through a very difficult time, he says in 2 Corinthians 9:9, "As it is written: They," the generous, "have freely scattered their gifts to the poor.

Their righteousness endures forever." Enduring righteousness is a righteousness that freely, not begrudgingly, freely gives to those whom God has determined to provide for through the tithe.

Or as Bruce Waltke sums up the subject, I love this statement, let it hit you in the heart, "The wicked are willing to disadvantage the community to advantage themselves.

They take with no intention to give.

What have you been preoccupied by lately? Is it earning a living? Getting promoted? Building friendships? Settling disputes? Learning a new hobby? You know, things can become obsessive.

It's against all these kinds of things that wisdom must compete with Raising her voice, Bruce Waltke said, she shouts, scolds, reasons, threatens, warns, and even laughs, all quite unladylike and nowadays even frowned upon.

That's what wisdom does.

For our part, just like the sun we saw earlier, we need only to listen, only to pay heed, Wisdom has an invitation and a warning and a choice.

There's something refreshing about someone who has the floor who's willing to say, "I really don't know all that I should know about this, but..." It's wonderful when you're around someone who has a wealth of knowledge, but you hear them say, "I'm not the final word." Let me give you, uh, an example of that.

A man who meant a great deal to me and means a great deal to me to this day, one of my mentors, is Bruce Waltke.

Dr. Waltke is a, as fine a student of the Hebrew Bible as I have ever been around, ever.

It was my privilege to study under him two of my four years at Dallas Seminary, and it was, uh, it was a splendid experience.

No longer will they teach their neighbor or say to one another, know the Lord because they will all know me from the least to the greatest.

Bruce Waltke writes this, our walk with God is not a matter of divining his hidden will for our lives, but of walking daily before him in faith and trust.

So what does this mean for our lives, okay? So you guys, all of us here, have been making decisions about Every day, we make a decision from little Emily, little Kelly, little Logan.

So probably the highlight of my year was I got a phone call, and it was Dr. Bruce Waltke, who probably walking planet Earth is the greatest living Old Testament scholar today.

He just turned 96 or 97.

I mean, dreams in Hebrew, right? Wanted me to come show him this amazing new logos to study better.
