They had their, um, they had a record deal, and they were getting s- support slots, you know, supporting people like Elton John and people like this.

And, um, their bass player, Bruce, who went on to be, found a member of, uh, Elvis Costello's Attractions-

[laughs] Anyway, so, um, anyway, uh, Bruce was ill, and they borrowed Tex Comer, our bass player, for a few gigs.

But during that time, I think they were trying to say, "A- actually, Tex, you know, we, you know..." They were kind of, uh, courting him to join their band actually, which w- And, um, Tex must have considered it, 'cause they were probably paying something like 30 quid a week, you know, which is a king's ransom-

So they were friends of my managers from down at the pub.

And Bruce Thomas was his landlord.
