Bruce Highway

And And we've got the biggest road project in regional Queensland going right now, the Rocky Ring Road.

It's going to revolutionise the Bruce Highway for our state.

So I'm passionate about making sure those things continue in central Queensland.

It's a centre of opportunity for our nation.

So to kick off episode number one for us, we're going to have a bit of an in-the-weeds chat with Trevor Warner.

We're going to have a chat about what's happening up on the Bruce Highway, of course.

Receptions from our young people, young drivers that are coming into our industry.

I'm going to share some information about a discussion I've had with the Honourable Shane Newman, member for Blair.

How's your week

been? It has not bloody stopped.

Typical of the Bruce Highway, as we all know.

We can nearly call it Pothole Central.

You have served as a police officer.

You've dealt with tragedy on the dreadful Bruce Highway.

It runs right through the heart of your electorate.

I know you're working hard to try and fix it up.

Let's... you know, let's look after the Australian people and not get too offended by every bloody thing.

I don't disagree.

And look, can I talk about the Bruce Highway briefly? Because obviously the Bruce Highway, one of the biggest potholes in Queensland, which is a big claim, was in part of the Bruce Highway in your electorate.

We talked about it earlier this week, like a metre long, this pothole.

It needs and deserves more and better infrastructure.

Piling all the traffic on the Bruce Highway is not the answer.

It is not the answer.

And yet that is the only answer that seems to exist right now.

And when Caboolture West is fully developed, the amount of additional traffic on the Bruce Highway is just not going to help anybody living in this area.

Now, we believe in common sense on this program and we think building new roads, building new rail, and that means rail that actually centres on the need of the people of the city of Moreton Bay and maybe the city where you live as well.

I don't think it's the idea that everyone needs to travel by train into the middle of the city of Brisbane to then change trains to come back out makes any sense anymore.

It's got Westfield Shopping Centre, IKEA, Costco, everything's coming here.

And if the roads haven't been built in the first place, potholes open up.

But along the Bruce Highway has been this extraordinary rain-carved potholes between Curra and Glenwood, north of Gympie.

And it's left drivers with nowhere to go.

There's been an estimated 70 vehicles damaged, this monster pothole.

A victim's report being forced to either slam into the metre-long, a metre-long crater.

How deep is it? Or swerve head-on into oncoming traffic.

The Bruce Highway is a killer road enough now.

Too much traffic and we're putting up with this rubbish.

This is another thing of why I played for a footy team as well.

I actually got a gig working on the Bruce Highway when they were doing the upgrades on the sunny coast here.

And the coach at the time was the Kilcoy Yowies head coach.

And this is when I was playing for Noosa.

It's probably bigger.

to be honest because it's just the boys are just there to tee off on you especially a young fella but so i did that for a bit and then i ended up working out in wa so that's also why i stopped playing footy so i got out of what i was doing on the the highway because it was all casual and the sunny coast seems to rain for half the year so i wasn't getting paid so i was like what do i do now ended up going away out west doing four week swings on a drill rig for about 18 months that was character building i reckon that's probably one of the things that's turned me into the person that i am now and made me realize that money's not everything because being away from friends family all that at a young age is just like it's so tough so isolating don't get me wrong you come back and you're partying or not but that was the problem and you'd come back and you'd expect everyone to not be working it's like everyone's got a normal job back at home And then I was like, fuck, I need to get out of it.

I ended up getting my job back in a different way at that Bruce Highway.

But then I was like, I'm doing all these things, but does it get me out of bed in the morning? And I just remember going, what do I actually fucking want to do? And in grade 12, I did my Cert III in fitness because I was like, yeah, I'm into gym and fitness and whatnot.
