Brooklyn Bridge Park

It felt like all of Brooklyn was there pretty much.

It was at Brooklyn Bridge Park from Pier 1 to Pier 6.

And what they did was they dribbled basketballs, they meaning all the fans.

And they dribbled from Pier 6 to Pier 2.

The city saying the Brooklyn Heights Promenade would remain open.

The plan is already generating some concern because construction would affect the Brooklyn Bridge Park area, in that area around Furbin Street, and could last for nearly 10 years.

It's also costing about $4 billion over the cost of those 10 years.

Speaking of the mayor and his administration, a coalition of supermarkets, groceries, and bodegas are filing lawsuits challenging the mayor's plan to establish a subsidized grocery store in each borough.

On another letter note, what's your favorite spot in New York City since you are still a New York native?

I really like Brooklyn Bridge Park.

I think it's a really nice park to just like go around, beautiful scenery.

Every time in general, the other spot that is actually in my film, whenever I ride the Q train or in the QRR train back from Manhattan to Brooklyn and you see the whole like skyline, whenever I'm in that bridge, it just reminds me, oh, I'm in New York and it's like a beautiful, magical moment.

Um, and this was a goal of this T- Trust for Public Land that I worked for for eight years after I was at, uh, New York City Parks, but it's also a centerpiece of Mayor Bloomberg's Plan NYC, the whole sustainable development plan.

And we achieved that largely through the transformation of, um, schoolyards into public playgrounds, a project invented by the Trust for Public Land, and by adding massive new parks like Hudson River Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park and the High Line and things like that.

But, you know, we had a sort of a golden age of park creation and expansion in the Bloomberg years.

And I'm optimistic that there's gonna be some new parks on the horizon for our, our current mayor, who seems to be a fan of parks with a, a brilliant new parks commissioner, Tricia Shimamura.

One evening Priya called, do you want to take a walk? She asked, her voice feather soft.

Brooklyn Bridge Park was mostly empty, wind snatching our words.

She looped her arm through mine.

You seem remote, she said, like you're somewhere else all the time.

In 2001, Ryan Adams shot his music video for the song New York, New York.

He filmed it in Brooklyn over at the Brooklyn Bridge Park.

It captured the Twin Towers in the background.

Because of the timing, the video became a poignant tribute and ran heavily on MTV after 9-11.

The financial viability of such licensing deals has kept the brand relevant in a city that otherwise forgets old neighborhoods at breakneck speed.

Fast forward to 2023, when CBGB's namesake was thrust into an annual festival on Brooklyn Bridge Park, billed by organizers as CBGB Fest, featuring acts from punk pioneers like the Ramones, via archival recordings.

Attendees were greeted with murals of iconic flyers, holographic recreations of the infamous CBGB sign, and pop-up stalls selling vintage posters and modern apparel emblazoned with the Snake logo.
