You know, that sort of, that genre where it's, it's easy to watch.

It's not too gory.

Um, but to have two females at the helm, two different generations, I think women are responding to that because it's, it...

Like, women in particular are obsessed, Brooke, do you feel?

that?Um, uh, you know, so that's a question actually that is surprising me be- not now, because it's been coming up.

It's surprising that- Mm-hmm ...

it has been coming up of late, and I'm sort of wondering what is in the zeitgeist and what is- Interesting ...

I think because with, with internet sensations and TikTok stars and reality shows- Mm-hmm ... and, right? And you ask a kid what they wanna be when they grow up and they say, "Famous." You know, it used to be- Yeah ...

"I wanna be a doctor," or, "I wanna be this." I think people are starting to really look at fame differently.

Like, what does it really mean, right? Mm-hmm.

[laughs]

Mm-hmm.

And, and is it good? Is it bad? Is it purposeful? Is it...

Because it doesn't, it- It doesn't rely on the same criteria that it used to rely on- Mm-hmm ...

it, in many ways.

Um, and infamous and, and famous is also, you know what I mean? Like, that, that sort of, the relationship between those two things I think is very different in this day and age.

And for this- Yeah ... next generations coming up.

What I have, I used to fight it.

[gasps]

... that I had known for so many years, and I hadn't seen so many of them and they all came out to, I mean, to c- drive to v- you know, East Hampton and do th- you know, it's just, I couldn't believe the effort people made.

But my girls were sitting there, and you know, the, you play this game and I'd never done it before.

They were the most vibrant, hysterically funny women-

... willingness to just, but really your willingness to sort of bel- you know, have convictions and speak them, and, and, and enter in debate and c- and conversation.

And, and to me, like that's just such a beautiful thing in... to be a mom and have that.

You know what I mean? And be a friend and be a wife and be a partner and be, you know, a colleague, and all of those things.

... that I had known for so many years, and I hadn't seen so many of them.

And they all came out to, I mean, to c- drive to, you know, East Hampton and do th- you know, it's just, I couldn't believe the effort people made.

So how do you navigate being Brooke Shields with a new project?

I think I've had to navigate it for so many decades.

And I think I, you know, you fight it at first.

You sort of resent it a little bit because, you know, when you're younger.

And it's not about privacy because I've always fought for that.

And I've managed to get it where I needed it with school and university, etc.

But...

And so I want to know, did anything shift for you personally after that? A

Mm-hmm.

But, um, I think he ended up respecting me in the long run.

As someone who loves to cook, I've always been particular about where my protein comes from.

I seek out the good stuff, the butcher counter, the farmer's market, because I believe quality ingredients make all the difference.

But honestly, with all my travel lately, that takes time that I don't always have.

That's where Omaha Steaks has been a genuine revelation for me.

My husband asked me to make him the Steak Diane that his mother used to make him.

[laughs] All right, we're gonna take a very quick break, and we'll be right back with the lightning round.

I think what I would wanna know, and I think if you, you know, you fast-forward but then you look back, like, what would you say to a woman 35, 40, 45? Like, what would you have done different during that time that you know now?

I don't think I would've chased so hard.

So I think y- you start to disintegrate in your opinion of yourself.

Like, when you're younger, you're insecure, but for kind of more obvious reasons.

Then you get to, like, your 30s, and you start to find all the reasons why you don't have value, because that's what the world is telling you.

And I would say just it's the beginning, like each stage is the beginning of a new beginning.

And I'm not zen.

[laughs] Commence commence.

Given your longstanding friendship with Michael Jackson, I was wondering if you've seen his movie yet.

I have not seen his movie yet.

I want to.

I'm told I, I, I'm not in it, and I'm, I didn't even think that I would be.

So everybody's like, "Oh, aren't you upset?" I was like-

Uh, Brooke, since you once had a love story of your own with JFK Jr., did you watch Love Story, and what did you think of the show?

I love how I'm whispering it.

Well, I know.

It's so funny.

And the day I met her, I said, oh, you just got married.

Do you want to have kids? And she went, uh-huh.

And I was like, oh, God.

You were like, did I ask? Oh, God.

I mean, what's

Yeah

...

but there's, like, very little blood.

Um, we get to do a lot of physical comedy, which has been a part of it, so that when it gets to the more dramatic, sort of sweeter scenes between these two women, um, you're, it's a relief.

It, when you've lived your life trying to live up to people's expectations, and then your own on top of that, and as a parent and as a wife and all these things, and then as a public figure, all that, it's like this treadmill that you're on, right? And it's not until you just say, "Hey, you know, you are enough." Like, you know, l- look at who you have in your life and look who loves you and look how you've got this potential to keep, keep going.

Like, I think it, it took, it took a lot of self-reflection and just quiet time to me to sort of sit with that and, and stop trying to be better, smarter, skinnier-

Sure.

Like, just that.

It's not about enjoying it.

It's not about taking the time and sitting down and the, the ceremony of it.

Mm

... that in, in, in all the noise and in everything, I, I've lost a little bit about... of my, like...

It's okay, you're, you're, you've...

It's okay.

You know what? You're fine.

You're a good person.

You have good people in your life.

How are your kids doing? Are they fine with that? Yeah, they're

okay.

And do they still get stockings? They still, So that's a good thing.

I think kids get too much of everything.

And either then you guilt buy.

And it's also, you know, a lot changes,

but it's the support of women, friends.

You know, it's the support of each other, holding each other up and saying, like, you know, whether it's in beauty, you know, I'm now in the beauty industry in a different way as an entrepreneur.

But when I started Commence, it was all about women in the new era.

And it was all about taking care of their hair and their scalp, which is, our hair is so fraught now.

We're so tied to it.

If you have a good hair day, I feel like I walk through the world differently.

I haven't gotten in an argument.

They're not married.

Two and a half years in.

I mean, listen, I think if you're away from each other a lot, it makes it easier not to fight.

Yes.

Whenever you come back together, I find reentry the difficult time.

Absolutely.

You know, I just wanted to be approved of and liked, and then I got my star and I got my pat on the back and, and I was considered nice.

And that meant whatever it meant.

There was currency in that.

And now, the currency of someone who's almost 60 is, it's not about wanting to be liked, it's just about finding ways to be heard and, and listened to, and, and have your thoughts and beliefs, whether the- the other person disagrees is fine, but you've put yourself on record for yourself, you know?

Mm-hmm.

And it was at that moment that the- the gaze shifts and sh- she becomes very empowered.

And it, that character says, "Oh yeah, I'm the, I'm the sexual being and now I'm supposed to be a cute little girl with this new perfect life." And- and he said, and he just, he said, "I want you to stare down the lens, and it's gonna be uncomfortable," and it's just, but he said that's...

Mm-hmm.

And I could work on all the other stuff, right, and just feel good about it.

But I just recently had the opportunity to act in front of, basically.

It, it was hardly opposite because I had all the dialogue.

Two very prominent female, brilliant, award-winning, lovely women.

One is in her late 60s, early 70s.

One, I'm a little bit older than.
