Broadcasting Act

We have lost control of the Canadian advertising market.

We finally decided, after some studies from some wise people and government reviews to amend the Broadcasting Act, and to set up a framework that would ensure that foreign platforms like Google and Netflix that had television and audio programming would contribute equitably to the system.

It took us 10 years to get to this point where we had the legislation, the CRC was starting to make decisions, set up the regime, and in one stroke, One ill-considered, quite frankly, outrageous attempt to assuage the Trump regime.

The current government is saying they're going to wipe all that away and start afresh.

And then, of course, as I said, there's the Online Streaming Act.

And again, by way of refresher, that came about because Parliament went to the task of amending the Broadcasting Act.

You would know this, Josh, in your work as a journalist back in 2023.

And they did this to bring these large online streaming services together.
