British Empire

Pippa was born in Hatfield in Hertfordshire in 1961 and trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School before building an impressive career in British television.

Many viewers will remember her as Helen Brittis in the BBC sitcom The British Empire, where she played the long-suffering deputy manager alongside Chris Barry's chaotic leisure centre boss.

Now, I think I've mentioned The British Empire previously when we've had another actor who's appeared in British Empire and Goodnight Sweetheart.

And the British Empire, I always used to love watching that.

I always remember, even recently, whatever the comedy channel is now, it used to be UK Gold.

I don't know what it's called these days.

But they would often show the British Empire on that.

And it's such an easy watch.

And then in 1905, the Tom Price-led Labor government in South Australia became the first Labor government elected for a full term.

And in 1910, Andrew Fisher, the same man who promised to protect the British Empire to the last man and the last shilling, was elected.

The Labor Party was elected with a majority in both houses of parliament.

So that's political momentum.

So we're just going to read a few of these out.

In January 1991, The British Empire, starring Chris Barry and Pippa Hayward, first premiered on BBC One.

And in January, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was first aired in the UK over on

BBC Two.
