Brighton Pier

So it's a kind of allegory of the First World War presented as a musical theatre entertainment.

It's initially set in and largely takes place in Brighton Pavilion and on Brighton Pier.

And the exteriors and interiors evoke a kind of Edwardian end of the pier show.

But that is alternated with scenes which are more realistically used to represent the First World War itself.

Yet all of these piers are still around and they're still going.

When we think of yourselves, we think of Southend, Adventure Island, Brighton Palace Pier.

What is it about your locations and your parks that has meant you have withstood that test of time and that real shift in audience and demographic and changes to how people spend their leisure time?

People like to go as a family, particularly young family, to the seaside, particularly when it's warm.

But yeah, being able to travel around with the kind of arcade culture and nostalgia in your pocket and the magic of the moment when you find a machine and the card reader works.

I'm talking about your Ghost Squad machine on Brighton Pier that now the card reader doesn't work.

And like you say, they're sadly hard to get hold of.

The initial D card, I go back to Casino Leisure, because of its long history in arcade, they've still...

But I don't know if that's true, but... like going games would be lesser games with better acting whereas

in general i absolutely believe that good acting is good

for games but yeah you know there's yeah i absolutely i absolutely love it the momentum of moving through the game the you know the way you can kind of milk score out of it picking your own route i didn't realize that is again isn't it capacity for your own kind of approach that obviously matters to me in arcade games and i guess it you know here we are saying fed into my career it really captures for me like i say a dedicated cab is a kind of giant toy who wouldn't want a time crisis 2 cab at home like it really gets to the essence of play and that is at the center of my career and what i love about games and being in a playful industry and yeah i did like a load of people from the develop conference in the uk once in brighton to brighton pier to play ghost squad and i think i was more into it than anyone else but yeah yeah sure Hey, next time, yeah, if there are...

Um, so I don't think that's the issue.

I think they'll probably end up playing Brighton Pier together in the summer season.

I think Louise Haigh was more sensitive at the time, and a bit of bridge-building has had to ensue between, uh, Streeting and Louise Haigh.

Wisely, uh, probably at both ends, but also given that, uh, Louise Haigh w- has become much more important since then.

And we were really close to the coast.

So if people know Brighton Pier, you know, we're pretty close to that.

And you could actually see it from the window at the seventh floor of the hospital, actually.

um and and i've gone down to get some air my phone ring rang and it was tara and i'm like god what does she want what's up martin listen listen just spoken to one of the consultants and he's just said to me for what it's worth i think he's gonna make it and in that moment in that moment i was two days in that was on the monday monday the 24th of july in that moment it's like The darkness, the abyss, the blackness, the pain, the hell, the numbness, the parallel universe, the bubble of just something that, again, words can't explain, burst.

It can't be good for them to be comparing themselves to each other every day.

Oh, the Tomatoes have had a fun day out at Brighton Pier together and they didn't invite the Turnip.

Well, I guess the Turnip will just keep playing FIFA by himself in his room in Hayward Sea for a full Saturday, while struggling with the reality of his parents' recent divorce and sister's worsening mental illness.

Maybe if the Tomatoes had invited the Turnip to the Pier, the Turnip wouldn't feel the need to please strangers on the internet.

So he did do that in Brighton.

I think I told you, I speared fish under Brighton Pier.
