Brian Yuzna

It's definitely an isolated story.

So it follows Brian, who hasn't been in any of the games or any of the movies from before.

He's a medical courier, and he's been gifted an organ that needs to be taken to Raccoon City Hospital.

Unbeknownst to everyone, Raccoon City is completely overrun with mutated creatures.

Something's gone out.

Something's gone awry.

So Brian's on his way over, and he hits, to his knowledge, a woman on the road, and pulls over and tries to help her out.

But she's actually an infected person.

So that's good.

And then I would like to point out, we told Carl this, but we watched, directed by Brian Yuzna.

Yes.

We watched The Dentist and The Dentist 2.

Let's watch this.

And then immediately it was like a film by Brian Yuzna.

I'm like, oh my God, it's the Return of the Living Dead Part 3 guy.

the first 10 minutes

the the pre-credits scene is the entire fucking uh seven page story i'm pretty sure it's like seven pages at least also written by brian usna and dennis paoli paoli paoli paoli i don't know We did see another Yuzna movie before with Society, if you guys remember that.

If you even care.

I remember Society.

Wait, was that him?

Lovecraft or Yuzna? Was Society? Yeah, that's his movie.

I was like, it's not a Lovecraft thing, though.

Because he directed it.

Do you know who directed this movie? I don't.

A good friend of our version of the show, one Brian Yuzna, directed this.

Yuzna.

He's got a short time to plan the world premiere with his one-hit wonder mom, his best employee trying to quit, and his growing suspicion that the Flapjacks itself is hiding something sinister.

It says, take a bit of Looney Tunes, a dash of Troma, and add a hint of Brian Yuzna.

And you have the recipe for Flapjacks.

That sounds interesting.

All right, we are talking Bride of Reanimator, the 1990 horror comedy written and directed by Brian Yuzna, who was loosely adapting H.P. Lovecraft's serialized story Herbert West, Reanimator, and starring, once again, Jeffrey Combs and Bruce Abbott as doctors Herbert West and Dan Cain, two college roommates whose experiments into reanimating the dead flesh of the bodies in the morgue at their university were resulted in a comically grotesque mini zombie apocalypse massacre, and who this time around go Bride of Frankenstein mode and attempt to assemble a living woman from dismembered body parts.

This is our second time talking about cult writer-director Brian Yuzna as a director, and I don't know how many times it is that we've talked about him as a producer at this point, who started his career co-producing the 80s horror films directed by his pal Stuart H. Gordon, who, when they met, was basically an obscene underground stage theater director, but who had dreams of making a TV show based on H.P. Lovecraft's Frankenstein parody serial detailing the exploits of this obsessive, uninhibited medical student who invents a glowing zombie serum and who was convinced actually by Yuzna.

To turn the movie into to turn into a movie to turn it into what became reanimator in 1985 because he saw the money as a producer in the 80s horror trends of things like Sam Raimi and that very playful bad taste sort of horror comedy assault.

And also David Cronenberg as well in the very psychological and philosophical approach to body horror and character transformation and all of that.

And

it's Brian Yuzna, who I think is horribly underrated in his later movies.

Yeah.

Society and Re-Animator are honestly classics.

But they're so fun to look at.

But yeah, this book is, it's like F. Scott Fitzgerald meets Brian Yuzna's film Society.

It's very goopy and very like body part laden, and I love that about it.
