Hany Mukhtar crossed a beautiful pass to Super Sam in the 24th minute and Surge's header just missed the right corner of the NYC goal.

But the even better chance came in the 43rd minute when NYC and U.S. national team keeper Matt Freese flubbed the ball right in front of Christian Espinosa, tapped it over to Hany Mukhtar, who was only five or six yards in front of the goal, and no one was there to defend.

Mukhtar one-touched his shot, but it hit the crossbar and preserved the scoreless tie.

And the game held there throughout to the final whistle, no goals on the scoreboard, and a point on the road for the league-leading Nashville.

Unfortunately for NSC, none of the top teams across the MLS fared very well this weekend.

The top three teams in the Western Conference and the top seven teams in the East all either lost or tied their matches, meaning Nashville either kept or extended their lead over any other close rivals in the standings.

Charlotte and Houston, who's second in the West, played to a scoreless draw with five saves from Charlotte keeper Christian Kalina.

Columbus dominated over Colorado with a 3-0 win.
