And I remember I went back to the training ground.

I trained a couple of days and then one of the scouts at West Ham pulled me to the side and he said, look, I've had a phone call off Brian Flynn, who I know.

He said he'd been to one of West Ham reserve games, seen me in one of the games and wants you to come down to Swansea to have a trial period, if you like.

We had two games against Forest Green and Aston Villa reserves, 19s, if you like.

So it was almost like a new team.

Within the period I'd been there, we'd almost kind of had such a big turnaround in players.

But I think there's a lot of credit goes to, obviously, Brian Flynn and Kevin Reeves for knowing...

the type of players and the characters to bring into the club, and you felt the quality changed.

Joe Allen.

Brian Flynn.

Barry Horn.

Terry Yorreth.

They didn't come that often, because Nicky had done that well.

And then I think that season, Brian Flynn, needed a goalkeeper so I went to Wrexham along with young Geoff Whitley went as well so that helped me because it was Joe at that stage after a period of time Joe was really really good with me as well as was Frank during my career I'd realised that you know he didn't want me going away and playing reserve games as they were in those days all the time so I just kept myself fit and played the odd reserve game, which helped me.

I think if I had to play every reserve game, I would have got a little bit despondent.

But Frank, I think, managed that situation really well.
