Grasshoppers have been a little bit bad this year.

But Brian Bledsoe says for farmers in the Southern Plains, the next big problem will be getting a winter wheat crop planted this fall.

A lot of my guys are actually concerned that there's not enough moisture to get that wheat up to participate in the annual forage program.

And that, I think, is a whole other issue that we're going to have to look at going forward.

But the big question now is where prices will go from here.

Brian, I cannot complain about having a week straight of almost 100 degree days actual temperature because in Texas, some areas breaking a record for the most consecutive days over 100 degrees.

We're talking 30 plus days and the crop we saw earlier in the show, it sure is paying the price for it.

And that will allow at least a little bit better hope.

But in the interim, what you see is what you get, unfortunately.

Well, for the crop that you saw this week, weather played a major role and it will continue to play a major role.

So we're going to check in with Brian Bledsoe with a check of weather coming up next.

Well, weather was a big story on crop tour this week with some extreme weather swings impacting crops in the heart of the Corn Belt.

But now the concern shifts to El Nino and how this crop could finish.

Brian Bledsoe joins us from the Kansas City studio for that.

Well time the latest Climate Prediction Center seasonal forecast update came out late this past week and you know from a just a 10,000 foot view, you knew El Nino was going to be a big part of that forecast.

And as I kind of went through the information, you can clearly see those signals.

One year ago, only a third of it was.

Well, Brian, we just got the latest on drought.

Mm-hmm.

But what can we expect for weather patterns over the next couple weeks?

That's largely due to the weakening of that ridge that's over the south and the southwest part of the country.

So, you know, Hailey, I wish we had better news on this front, but bottom line, I think we're stuck with what we have, at least in the interim.
