Excited for that.

The fact that we're different is okay, but it's in the midst of those differences that we can say, look, I respect the fact that we're different and we can build a strong nation together going forward.

Last night, Brett Kissel was on stage before he performed.

I know you were there.

He said he's a proud Albertan.

It was something I saw last night on Instagram.

And Brett Kissel sang a bar of I Will Always Love You and was quite emotional about it.

Said that he had never met Dolly, but knew a lot of people that did.

And it just...

funny.

I'm kind of thinking, oh, you're trying to talk about Katie.

Jill, the funny story about Brett Kissel.

So he had just won...

Mike Plume wouldn't be here.

Brett Kissel wouldn't be here.

All those guys and so many more performed on that stage.

And when that theater was tore down, it really left a hole in our community.

Yeah, like it's terrible.

[laughs] But he did the anthem as well somewhere Brett Kissel's like, "Whoa."

Oh, geez, yeah.

He's like, "What the- Like Brett Kissel didn't do the anthem on country night.

Yeah.

Allen Jackson experienced it.

But I figured why not ask some of our friends from the festival what their hit of the week is.

So this episode, I got to chat with Schoolhouse, Brett Kissel, and Mitch Zorn.

So let's see what their hit of the week is.

Mine's a local band, an Ottawa Valley band called The Haylofters.

So that might come into play during like a honky tonk song where it's very loud, upbeat, um, party-esque vibes but that contributes to the story of the song because it's telling a more lively story if that makes sense just in like rather simplistic terms so in my opinion country music is the live music genre because it so country music and like all of its sub genres have such a unique way of storytelling both through lyricism and through these instrumentals and instrumental storytelling that it allows the audience and the fans to really connect with what's being performed and I think that country music is one of the few genres where you can go to a show and not know the words of any single song but still connect to the performance and I think that that is a big part of why it's grown in popularity so much over the past few years.

But at the festival, at Boots and Hearts, I really wanted to hear artists' take on this.

And I was really excited to specifically talk with Brett Kissel about this topic because I do know that he has been in the industry for as long as I can remember.

And...

Yeah.

And I wanted to talk to you about, you performed with Brett Kissel last week, last Thursday, I believe.

I'm curious for you, how does that change how you interact with friends' music or just people you're fans of when you're in the audience watching like you are this weekend versus when you're on stage with them, interacting with their music with them, performing to that same audience?

Yeah, I mean, I'm still coming up.

So that stuff is still like, you know, I don't get as starstruck as usual because backstage, you know, you see everybody and you're kind of crossing paths.

But it's still just such a cool thing.

I've been a big fan of Brett Kissel's for a long time.

I have a bunch of songs of his that I love that I used to cover, that I used to listen to on road trips or whatever.
