A donkey route, in the simplest of terms, is an illegal method to gain entry into a country of one's choice.

That's The Indian Express's Brendan Dabhi, who reported on the story for the newspaper.

Uh, in most cases it means the United States of America, but it's also been used for other countries.

It, uh, involves traveling through several different countries, including routes that go through the Middle East, through Africa, through certain European countries, and to either the countries north or south of the US, and then to gain illegal entry, often by the land border, into the United States.
