Breeder reactor

At the age of 16, David was reading one of his father's old textbooks, a usual pastime for him, when he stumbled upon something that would put his life and all the lives of the people in his neighborhood in jeopardy.

A breeder reactor.

Typical nuclear reactors, like other energy sources, heat water that spins a turbine which generates electricity.

What makes reactors different is the heat source.

If left alone, it will cause a meltdown.

That's why control rods are used to absorb neutrons and water is used to slow them down as well as cool down the reactor.

Breeder reactors not only produce heat via a chain reaction, they also breed more fissionable material than they use, making them very sustainable, requiring far less refueling.

David saw breeder reactors as the future and now had a passion for building one.
