Brave Search

So I got some MCPs.

Like I wrote a MCP server to do web search based like the Brave MCP, the Brave web search API thingy.

Docs for embedding.

We've got all that going on here.

But I'll go to that, too.

So let me go back.

Sorry, MCPs, where were they? So we got one connected here, this Brave Search MCP, and it'll sync tools.

And then I think I had some logic in here I haven't tested out where you could, like, toggle what to present so you can see the tools to different users.

You try to show up in Bing's index.

I think now a lot of people say you try to show up in Brave.

I'll let you guys know later, but...

If you're able to show up in all these indexes, you're able to kind of have influence sooner.

So, you know, from a business perspective, it probably matters a bit more.

I was at a conference and some data was shared around Claude pulling their results from Brave.

And I shared some of that data on LinkedIn and got a lot of interest.

I was curious around your own Claude data studies.

I mean, web analytics data is pretty much flawed in that sense, if we think about the attribution of it.

And in B2B, where there are maybe some sales cycles involved and whatnot, I do encourage everybody to look at other forms of measurement, such as self-reported attribution.

The other thing, when we look at Claude and how Claude works in terms of citation data compared to JackGBT, I haven't tested and analyzed the whole statement around, well, Claude is just pulling data from Brave.

And if you are part of Brave search index, you're also ranking well on Claude.

Now, they tested this on macOS, not on Linux, on a Mac Mini M2, so maybe things are different on Linux.

But what they did is load the 50 most popular websites as ranked by Brave Search, measuring the load time for each landing page, so the homepage of each website.

They measured that 10 times for each page.

What they found is that Firefox uses the most energy per page load, where Edge and Chrome were better, and Brave was the best.

And that's by far the easiest entry point.

You need an LLM endpoint and an LLM API key, and ideally a Brave key for web searching.

Right.

And, you know, you plug those in on the container.

Yeah, Brave, yeah.

Yeah.

One of my colleagues said, oh, why aren't you using Bing search for an API key? And apparently Microsoft is changing that or has changed.

OpenAI is losing its head start, um, against Anthropic.

I think Anthropic are, are washing the floor, and Anthropic are using Brave Search, which is a Google clone.

So is it just a creativity issue where someone is saying, "Well, that's not part of my SEO suite," or, "I don't know how to do that and I'm leaving it out." But if another SEO agency says, "That is part of my suite and I can also rank." And if, if you're, if...

I'm just gonna say this for the, for the smarter folks who are listening to this.

Um, and the easiest place to start is Perplexity and, uh, Claude, because they both show the query fanout as part of the research.

You have to double-click to find it, but understand the query fanout, and then that will drive what James has said.

And look at the search results in Google, Bing, and Brave Search, and then look at the gaps.

Is YouTube ranking? Is Reddit ranking? Is LinkedIn ranking? Can I get...

Uh, Gemini uses Google's own search infrastructure, obviously.

Claude has shown signs of leaning on Brave Search.

Perplexity pulls from a mix of sources and, uh, does pretty well to show its citations, so that might be some helpful context for you to know where these things are coming from.

Um, and that is a nice one to audit because you can manufacture, you can track manufacturing what you've un-gated or what you've put out there and, and see how that's showing up in the answers.

And so you can kind of control which search engines you are using in this meta search.

You can use Google Search and you can use Brave Search and so on.

Uh, but there is no tracking and there is no SEO sludge.
