So when you flew the F-15, and I can imagine some of the most high-stakes environments imaginable, when did you personally first realize that human performance, uh, was the side that actually determined outcomes, not the, uh, not just the tech, the hands and feet skills?
2:20
Yeah, absolutely.
2:21
Well, thanks, Kyle.
2:22
That's a great question.
2:23
Um, well, I think, you know, initially, and I think this is probably, you know, military, non-military, you know, flying, I think your kind of first lesson, first exposure to that, you know, not even a discovery flight, but when the first time you go out and you're expected to perform, and yes, it's something new, but when you think back to it and then when you come back, a lot of it is, is those human factors that are, that are kind of bothering you, right? The, the, the startle factor, the, the idea that you have to perform and the idea that you could be one day solo by yourself in this airplane, and you're at the controls and you have to figure out how to take off, fly around, and land this airplane.
3:01
You know, if, if you're flying a little airplane, you know, close to 100 miles an hour or flying a jet, you know, it, it flying at almost supersonic speeds, right? And you've got to do all that without hurting anybody or bending any metal.
3:11
I think, you know, that, that kind of overwhelming thought is kind of the first thing you see.
6:51
Wow.
18:32
So what opportunities are available during the summer months?
18:35
Well, again, we have our summer camps that we have that started in early June and run through the end of July.
18:44
And once you are plugged into the summer camp, those opportunities are really endless.
18:49
They do a tremendous job in coordinating and planning and making sure that the eight, nine weeks that the young people are attached to that summer camp, they get so many diverse experiences.
19:03
from educational to the arts to STEM, STEAM, going on field trips.
19:09
I mean, they take multiple field trips a week at each one of the club sites.
19:15
And so just having sports experiences as well is truly important.
22:24
So when we talk about athletics, mentorship, enrichment activities, those absolutely help students, right? But how do those prepare students for life after school?
4:45
So Brandon, will you tell us a little bit about yourself, your background, and how you got this role as Gianni?
4:53
Okay.
4:53
So, a similar story as Gianni except, uh, put it in Los Angeles.
5:01
I basically grew up on the streets.
5:03
My father wanted to be an actor, and my father was always, he was basically a street guy.
5:09
So ever since I was a kid, I had so many different odd jobs.
5:13
I've always been a hard worker.
7:45
Mm.
34:25
rational market, that's exactly economically how things...
34:28
That's a very normalized market.
34:30
But not for rentals.
34:31
Yeah.
34:32
So a big thing, I think...
34:35
The Residence Tenancy Act has some good pieces in it.
34:39
It does.

68:53
course.
21:05
Tell us a little bit about what human factors are, and then we'll talk about how we can implement those into the daily life.
21:11
Absolutely.
21:11
So as you said, I was, uh, Air Force.
21:14
I flew F-15Es.
21:15
I was an instructor pilot, evaluator pilot, served in several leadership roles.
21:19
And one of those things I did in the Air Force was I also went to the Air Force, uh, Flight Safety School.
21:23
And so I became an Air Force aviation safety officer.
25:35
Are, are you seeing that there is a, uh, a real need to introduce these human performance factors and, and get more people on board with debrief culture, or do you see that that's pretty, pretty well squared away right now and happening?
speaker_7UNKNOWN
41:38
Yeah.
41:39
Yeah, it was, it wasn't even part of the definition until later, and then we ca- and then obviously, like, the Gold Abrogation Act didn't have anything to do with silver.
41:48
There's more to all this, but it, I'm not gonna...
41:50
You know, it's gonna get kinda boring if we d- if we get into the, all the weeds on all that stuff, right? So we're just gonna keep it here where we're at.
41:56
So, um, so basically 1933 they took away all the ability to pay, so all we have, what's, what's left? E- everything became promises to pay at that point, okay? So basically then we have 1971.
42:14
Uh, what happened in 1971 th- that took us off the gold standard, right? So we had still been on the emergency banking, um, for...
42:30
Actually, that, that Wikipedia article was actually perfect for this.

Good morning.
2:30
It's good to be with you this morning.
2:32
Thanks for having me here, and I'm honored to be, uh, part of the Hudson Institute, uh, program.
2:39
Uh, in fact, I have spent, uh, began and now, uh, you know, at this stage of my career, uh, on this exact issue of deterring Russia and China.
2:50
Um, don't wanna break this, so I'll, uh...
2:55
So I was in Tiananmen Square during the protests of May of nineteen eighty-nine, and, uh, right at the beginning of May, saw those protests, uh, firsthand.

37:58
Um, I was wondering if you could say a little bit more about your vision for, um, the production of a digitally connected nuclear enterprise and how you're prioritizing the digitization and balancing that with the production mandate, making sure it's aligned.
5:33
A former Air Force F-15E instructor and evaluator pilot, major airline captain, and a guy who has built his entire second career around one idea
5:39
ideaDebriefing is a skill, and most of us are terrible at it.
5:43
100%, we have a huge gap on the general aviation civilian training side, which is the whole idea why I started doing this, is when I started working again, it was, it was mainly safety leadership, working with other teams, high reliability industries outside of aviation because they look to us for how we do things, whether it be, you know, checklist or crew resource management or, or how we mitigate human error.
6:02
And so they started taking things we did.
6:04
Well, when I started working flight school a few years ago, I was like, "Oh my gosh," like, yeah, we, we know this is gonna happen, but these young CFIs, or most all CFIs, they've never been taught how to do it.
6:15
You know, we, we talk about post-flight critiques, we talk about doing a pre-flight and a post-flight, but nowhere in even the FAA's flight instructor handbooks is there anything that talks about how to do debriefing, how to do root cause analysis, how to do lessons learned.
6:30
And to your point, in the, you know, how I was raised in aviation, my- most of my flying early on, being in the Air Force, being a fighter pilot, we held debrief to a...
10:37
Instead of closing that gap, what we do is moving from not knowing to knowing.
