Brandon Compton

So Axial Plaz I think very much on the rise.

Next up we have, uh, Brandon Compton of the Marlins, yet another outfield prospect in the Miami organization.

Yeah, and he was their second round pick last year.

So, uh, so people who follow the draft closely may have heard of him.

Now, he strikes out too much.

It's a familiar problem for a player who puts up ridiculous power numbers in the minors, and, you know, oftentimes it could be a deal breaker.

I'm not saying Brandon Compton is can't miss.

But the upside here is readily apparent with all those homers, all those steals, all those walks.

Uh, you're gonna run into that, but I've got a Bryce Harper swing and a Kyle Schwarber profile for Andrew Fisher as my comp.

And talk about comps, number one is Brandon Compton, right? Compton? I'm comp- comping Compton.

Ah, all right.

This hit tool, I don't know if he's gonna make it.

Um, but that's the top 10 for this week.

So we've got number one, Brandon Compton, number two, Andrew Fischer, number three, Brody McCullough with the Cubs, number...

That's my underdog of the week right there.

Uh, so we'll see if the hit tool gets there enough for him to make a impact, but you know what? There are a lot of catchers who hit two 20 and hit for power and they're actually pretty good.

So my compass, Tyler O'Neill or Brandon Compton is a catcher.

Um, maybe his real life speed isn't as good as like a Brandon Compton.

So maybe it's more like Tyler O'Neill without, you know, the steroids or whatever tyler o'neill's doing i'm just joking uh tyler o'neill doesn't do steroids he's just a beefcake uh so anyway number seven henry godbout with the red sock godbout had been a top 150 prospect for me at one time he has a very very good hit tool um but what else are we going to get from him i come to nico horner without speed which is like what i is like what a luis arias i guess uh or like a much worse stephen kwan like i don't really know uh but he's a middle infielder 45 60 hit tool 55 65 plate approach 35 45 power 45 50 speed uh but this week 412 batting average four extra base hits three home runs and steal so god bout 15 home runs on the season eight steals i guess jacob wilson is maybe a better projection because he's like got more power than arias but he's like I don't know.

He's hit tool focused for fantasy leagues.

So that's just the type of player he is.

I think it was around six that they finally went away from it.

And each of these guys near the top, Ivar Kett was the biggest name, the one that they invested the biggest money in, but, The poster child right there, that's Brandon Compton, the one that has 35 homers.

He's putting up a statistical season that we've never seen from the Marlins and minor leaguers before.

In between you have Cam Canarella, who just had his 23rd birthday today, another multi-day for him.

The fact that, like, all four of these guys, there's a possibility that they can play next year if there's baseball.

Of course, if they could play next year, that's pretty exciting.

Like, just looking at this, like, Brandon Compton, yeah, that's crazy.

Like, I still have some questions about him, like, his effectiveness against lefties and just, like, yeah, just his overall hit tool.

Let's start in AAA, where the Athletics promoted Jamie Arnold and Devin Taylor.

The Marlins promoted Brandon Compton, and the Mets promoted Gary Gil Hill.

Taylor, the name for me here is Devin Taylor.

This is somebody that I was a fan of during the FYPD process because I thought he was getting underrated based on the fact that people didn't really like his defense, but I thought this was a guy that was just going to flat-out hit defensively And that's all he's done this year.

Jamie Arnold briefly, I think it's been a solid debut season, but the strikeouts have not been what I expected.

So definitely something where I want to see a little bit more on that front, but overall, not terrible.

Brandon Compton, I think, is the most interesting player in this group because you look at the season stat line, 35 home runs, 27 stolen bases, 280 average, 424 OBP, 1,000 OPS.

The only problem is his K rate and contact rates are absolutely horrific.

Ryan Cesarini is kind of a names come popped up this last couple months here for the Guardians 349 average with 11 home runs and eight stolen bases.

in august justin gonzalez uh promoted to double a and has 29 hits in the month uh crushes the ball only four home runs but he just hits the ball so hard brandon compton in double a for the marlins eight home runs four stone basically this is a tool shed this guy is unreal athlete um avery awusu asiedu uh born in saskatchewan close to where kyle lives in high A and double A.

This guy is on a rocket ship right now.

11 home runs, crushing baseballs all over the ballpark, left, right, center, five stolen bases, just on a heater of all heaters right now.

It warmed my heart, Greg, when you gave Brandon Compton a shout-out in our Discord the other day, because I feel like I've been the only Compton truther around these parts.

Compton kind of popped on the radar for everybody with crazy, crazy wood bat exit velocities at the draft combine last year, which...

Going from five to 25.

And it's like, okay, Easton Shelton has only played in low A. Johnny Severino only in high A. Brandon Compton has been up to double A. Nolan Shubart's there.

He has only been up to double A.

Like, that didn't happen a year ago.

This is really exciting stuff here because some of these prospects are finally matriculating to the top spot in minor league baseball.

The Marlins have called Brandon Compton up to AAA.

They've also moved up Juan Matthews, who they got in the Ryan Weathers trade from the New York Yankees over the offseason.

So that means three, rather two of the four pieces from that trade.
