Bouncing Boy

Speaking of 55, 55 years ago, in 1971, we had Superboy number 180, which reprints the secret origin of Bouncing Boy from Adventure 301. which was covered in episode nine and also 299 and a half.

And I don't know why there was a 299 and a half, but it is what it was.

oh no the reason for that was because i think uh um scott couldn't make it and it was going to be episode 300 and so oh

What's Bouncing Boy's name? Oh, I don't remember.

So some of the powers will be familiar to the reader, but the characters are completely different.

There's no one that's a slavish imitation of Saturn Girl or Lightning Lad or Colossal Boy or, God help us, Bouncing Boy.

So, you know, they're all original characters in science fictional situations.

Now, I see you mentioned Bouncing Boy.

I actually liked Bouncing Boy.

Yeah, he was

fun.

And it gets worse.

You get Bouncing Boy, who can-

[laughs]

... make himself into a big balloon and bounce around, and you get Matter-Eater Lad, who can, you know, eat things.

I can't imagine there's an artist that could manage that nowadays um unless you just had like rotate like people just did two issues and then two inches you know but or you

do you break it up with like different uh you know different stories like you have these stories are done with bouncing boy and whatever you know chopping that up a bit

it is kind of but i think i think that extended page

is just the perfect format

And I think Legion was very important for queer representation.

Well, and also poly representation.

Just remember, Bouncing Boy is married to Triplicate Girl.

And finally, October 2nd, 2981, the Legion trails a gang of crooks to an off-limits island and are told by the populace and their local hero, Tyrock, to stay out of their city.

Meanwhile, without his bouncing powers and with his wife unconscious, Bouncing Boy must fight off a gang of revenge-bent crooks on his own, as seen in Superboy 216, and we covered that in episode 283.
