Aaron CamaroHOST
84:34
Question two goes to our friend Ray.
Aaron CamaroHOST
84:37
In 1983, Bill Ward quit Black Sabbath for the second time following the recording of the Born Again album.
Aaron CamaroHOST
84:46
For the tour, he was replaced by the drummer of this band.

84:52
So it's
Aaron CamaroHOST
84:53
Phil Ward looks around and says, what are we doing
speaker_5SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
84:56
here?
Aaron CamaroHOST
84:58
He listens to Born Again and says, I can't take it.
Aaron CamaroHOST
85:00
I agree.
Scott HolidayGUEST
22:42
If your heart's there, if it's real for you and you love the guys you work with, it can last, and you can do it all the way into your old age, and it can be real still, you know?
Dean DelrayHOST
22:52
Dude, I saw Ian Gillan, speaking of Black Sabbath, I saw the Born Again tour.
Scott HolidayGUEST
22:57
Wow.
Scott HolidayGUEST
22:58
Yeah.
Dean DelrayHOST
22:58
And, and, and, and that, that Born Again record, uh, uh, Ian Gillan for me, man, the Perfect Strangers Deep Purple album, oh, my God.
Scott HolidayGUEST
23:08
[laughs]
Dean DelrayHOST
23:08
And the Born Again album.
Dean DelrayHOST
23:10
Those albums, which by the way, somebody found some old clip of Ian Gillan singing on the Born Again, uh, Sabbath tour.
BlakeHOST
32:37
Yeah, that's my favorite Ozzy Sabbath song is Fairies Wear Boots.
BlakeHOST
32:43
My third song, which might surprise some people, but I'm a big Ian Gillan of Deep Purple fan, and I love the Born Again album that he did with Black Sabbath.
BlakeHOST
32:52
So my third song is Trashed, which is the first cut on the Born Again album.
BlakeHOST
32:57
It sounds more like Deep Purple maybe than it does Black Sabbath actually, but that's probably just because Ian
Julia ElenoirGUEST
33:02
Gillan's a singer.
BlakeHOST
33:04
whatever okay my number four is turn up i guess i should i usually go in reverse order but whatever i skipped it my number four is turn up the night which is also a deal song on i think that's on heaven and hell also or it could be on the mob rules sure i didn't write that down My number five is Black Sabbath song that we talked about on this album.
BlakeHOST
33:25
And number six is Neon Knights, which is another Dio one.
BlakeHOST
33:28
Number seven is Zero the Hero, which is also from the Born Again album with Ian Gillan.
Mike SpearsGUEST
11:25
[laughs]
Andrew RichHOST
11:25
And, um, on this episode, we're gonna be playing songs from the last album before a band breaks up.
Andrew RichHOST
11:33
Now, when I say that, I don't necessarily mean it's the band's last album ever, because sometimes a band will break up, some years will go by, and then they'll reunite and put out more albums.
Andrew RichHOST
11:45
So it doesn't have to be final albums, just last album before a breakup, and that could be final or not, you know, in, in any case.
Andrew RichHOST
11:52
So, um, and yeah, you know, you know, sometimes these bands, like you said with, with Dragon Gate units breaking up for whatever reason, sometimes these bands break up at, with, with a bang and go out strong.
Andrew RichHOST
12:04
Other times it's with a whimper, and you realize, yeah, it's, it's over for a reason, Mike, you know? [laughs]
Mike SpearsGUEST
12:09
[laughs]Oh, oh, oh yeah.
Mike SpearsGUEST
12:11
And I think that it's such, like, a interesting kind of thing, e- e- e- especially contrasting this with, like, my wrestling work as of lately, where I feel like I, at least in the year 2026, that being a Dragon Gate reporter is more and more being a gossip monger [laughs] than anything else, with just crazy things kind of happening.
Mike SpearsGUEST
39:17
He only sings on one album that directly then leads to Black Sabbath going on hiatus.
Mike SpearsGUEST
39:24
It is the album Born Again is after the departure of Ronnie James Dio and Vinny Apice.
Mike SpearsGUEST
39:31
And at least to me, you go from Ozzy Osbourne to Ronnie James Dio to Ian Gillian.
Mike SpearsGUEST
39:38
And I like Ian Gillian a great deal.
Mike SpearsGUEST
39:41
We'll talk about Deep Purple a little bit more later.
Mike SpearsGUEST
39:44
But just going from those two singers to him felt like such a complete disaster in retrospect.
Mike SpearsGUEST
39:53
And I feel like if you talk to tony yomi he probably would agree to it in this but uh the the song that i chose off of this interesting kind of exercise and what happens when you extend the band longer than you should is off of the album born again it is black sabbath's trash
speaker_4SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
40:45
Can you hear my life?
Martin PopoffHOST
23:04
And same with, like I said, power play.
Martin PopoffHOST
23:06
Is Black Sabbath born again? You know, does that fit in the rod of the bone Abominog thing a little bit? I think so.
Martin PopoffHOST
23:13
It promises maybe something more evil than what you get.
Martin PopoffHOST
23:16
It's kind of a typical... playful Ian Gillan set of lyrics.
Eddie TrunkHOST
27:46
And if you were to do that, I would love to see you, because, you know, this is your solo thing, touch on all the eras of Sabbath Live.
Eddie TrunkHOST
27:54
You know, I'd love to see you do something with this band from, say, the Tony Martin era, the Born Again era, the, you know, obviously the Ronnie era, maybe even a song you did with Glenn.
Eddie TrunkHOST
28:04
You know, it would be really cool if you could also cover all that ground.
Tony IommiGUEST
28:10
Yeah.
Eddie TrunkHOST
29:02
And that ties into some other stuff that I wanted to touch on with you.
Eddie TrunkHOST
29:08
As I mentioned at the top, the last few times we've spoken, they have been for, you know, maybe it was the Sabbath Ballet or the Perfume you had done or a reissue, the Tony Martin years set that was coming out.
Eddie TrunkHOST
29:20
um what's next in the in the rollout of reissues for sabbath uh i would think chronologically we're probably looking at born again right
Tony IommiGUEST
29:30
well i'd like to look at that i mean as you know it took us a long time to find out where that was because the tapes went missing and nobody knew where where they were and eventually they were found in in the storage of one of the record companies.
