Whereas in reality, what's happened is the dog just isn't able to learn because of, like, one factor which is quite often diet okay they're just not being fed the right things now and this isn't always just the case of the best food you know somebody who feeds their dog the most expensive boutique diet isn't necessarily helping a dog more than someone who's feeding them you know like a middle of the range budget kibble right it's about that individual dog and the nutrition it needs to to perform the job that you're asking it to do you know there are some dogs who have no uh behavioral no digestive issues um you know they're very fit and healthy genetically all that sort of stuff and you can feed those dogs on a run-of-the-mill kibble and they will get on just fine right like they're like one of those people who just eat crap all day and seem to be okay their metabolisms are running well everything else about them is good they get on fine right and then you have the people who just like look at a slice of cake and get fat okay it doesn't matter how hard they try um and you know we have or you have somebody who doesn't really understand that they're dairy intolerant for example and they spend their whole life you know like ever so slightly kind of like bloated and um you know like with a level of inflammation and they're like oh i'm just not a very healthy person but they just don't know they've got dairy intolerance right they stop eating dairy and all of a sudden they're like a new person okay so you know all of those things exist within dogs okay and Obviously, because this is about terriers, every dog is going to be different, but there are some common things that exist within terriers that... are worth thinking about.

The main one, and it's sort of border terrier-specific, really, is a gluten intolerance.

There's a disease that exists within border terriers that is called canine epiloid cramping syndrome, and it is caused by gluten intolerance.

So anecdotally, my opinion on all the dogs that I've worked with, if I had a Border Terrier, I wouldn't feed that dog grain full stop.
