Borden

The Met way of meeting the fans is a winning way for big and small.

Shea Stadium can be a swinging place in the gaiety of date night, fun night, Borden's night.

Elsie the cow has been to Flushing Meadow, and one night she brought a couple of calves for heroes Tom Seaver and Cleon Jones.

Some hero.

Elsie the cow is one of the first trademarked animals in the history of our, our, our nation and has always been viewed as something very positive.

Well, if you take a look at the Borden Corporation, the Borden Corporation goes back to 1857, so slavery was still legal.

However, the Borden Corporation came from New York, and New York was a free state.

So you would think, "Well, they pass muster.

There's not a problem." Well, there's just a little bit of problem with that because the Borden Corporation was purchased by KKR in 1995.

Oh, gosh.

Now, KKR is a huge New York conglomerate that just so happens to have also owned R.J. Reynolds, Nabisco, and the California law specifically regarding corporations points out that they're going after tobacco companies.

Um, so Gavin Newsom signs something that has the reparations advocates hailing as so important, and what a victory.

I had no idea that they were even related before.

So are you familiar with the Borden brand of milk?

Uh, yeah, I've seen that.

It's the one with the cow on the front, right?

And grumpy is actually an understatement here.

So in every single one of these comics, Elmer was ticked off, sometimes waving guns, other times screaming, and some of them he accused Elsie of things like regretting being married to him.

You wonder about these people in these marketing meetings and, you know, coming up with the ideas of what their mascots are going to do, and you just think, "Why did this take a turn in this direction?" But anyway, of course later for some reason when Borden decided to launch a brand of glue, they decided that who else should be their mascot but Elmer.

And I guess-

I went to college for food science because I was always heavy interested in science.

And ironically enough, when I graduated, Borden's Ice Cream in Syracuse, New York, was hiring.

And I interviewed and took a job in quality control for Borden's Ice Cream in Syracuse.

They were the second largest ice cream plant in the United States.

They made about 10 million gallons of ice cream a year.

I worked there almost 20 years.

And the last four or five years, I actually got promoted to plant manager.

I was the first woman plant manager in Borden's system in the country.
