Now, we first see this expression in the book of Malachim, in the first book of Kings, in chapter 14, verse 9, when God describes why the first king of the northern kingdom, Aholot, the first king of Shomron, the ten tribes in the north, he was an individual called Yerob and Ben-Navot, why he will have his kingdom torn away from him and have his royal house expunged from the history books.

He was the head of the Sanhedrin and he was nominated by God to be the first king of the Northern Kingdom.

So that is the way that the Gemara understands this strange language.

Again, it only occurs three times in Tanakh.

We have it in the book of Malachim.

We have it very powerfully in the book of Nehemiah.
