Bohr effect

When carbon dioxide is low, hemoglobin holds on.

That is the Bohr effect, and it is not fringe science.

It is on page one of every respiratory physiology textbook printed since.

A decade later, Christensen, Douglas, and Haldane described the reciprocal, which is that hemoglobin loaded with oxygen carries less carbon dioxide, which is what lets you dump carbon dioxide at the lungs.

It just never generalized the lesson.

And since I am drawing lines, let me draw the rest of them, because you deserve to know which parts of this episode are load-bearing evidence and which parts are framework.

The Bohr effect, the Haldane effect, the cerebral blood flow numbers, the wound healing trial, the altitude association, the Wim Hof adrenaline finding, all solidly documented, go look them up.

The claim that naked mole rats resist cancer because they live in burrows with 5% carbon dioxide is an inference, not a demonstrated mechanism.
