Body Worlds

I've done a couple with Carl Stecco.

I've been involved in the Plastination Project in Germany at the Body Worlds facility in Gubben and created some fascial pieces.

So that world opened up to me the minute I said yes to things.

I realized that you want to know more.

So for those of you not familiar with that, and if you go to YouTube and put in Freya, F-R-E-I-A, in fascia, the video will come right up.

But I'm sure a lot of you have heard of, if not gone to, Body Worlds, which is a traveling exhibit that originates out of Germany and the Vesalius of our modern age, Gunther von Hagens, who just passed away a few weeks ago, sad to say.

But he figured out a way to inject cadavers with a polymer so that we could then display bodies in, shall we say, real life human cadavers, skateboarding, playing baseball, running, jumping, doing things that humans do.

do so we can appreciate the form that underlies the skin and in some of the most fantastical poses and variations that you've ever seen.

She has been tapped to serve as his temporary replacement after his death on July 11.

German scientist Gunther von Hagen who created the controversial Body Worlds exhibit featuring posed human corpses on July 24th.

He passed away at age 81.

Von Hagens previously said that after he died, he wanted his body to be plastinated and presented at one of his exhibits.

Came out of Stanford University, and you looked at this cell.

And when I looked at this photo, Ben, it, it, it brought tears to my eyes in the same way that my experience during my doctoral program in Louisville brought me to, to tears when I walked into Bodies World and I saw the nervous system splayed out with the brain, the spinal cord, and all the nerves for the first time.

I was like, man, this is like, this [laughs] this is what God was talking about.

This is fearfully and wonderfully made, knit together, like very good, made in perfect his image.

Our nervous system.

You heard me talk about this story when I went and was doing my thesis and I went back into this place called Body's World and I saw this case, the beautiful case of a brain, a spinal cord, and this beautiful woven spider web looking thing.

And it was the nervous system.

The spine, the nerves, and the brain.

Like the skin off of it.

Like Body Worlds.

Yeah.

Yeah, exactly.

Okay.
