Not necessarily that they play the same way with Malik Willis, but when you have a mobile quarterback who is going to scramble and take sacks, which he did in this game, it's going to basically limit the passing pie every single week, where some of these drop backs are not turning into actual pass attempts.

And when Bobby Slowik wants to be a run first team, that could become an issue down the line where, you know, I'm excited about maybe what Chris Bell can be in a month when the, when the snaps ramp up.

If Douglas can take another step forward, that would be great.

I know some people were hoping on Greg Dee to maybe be a sleeper tight end this year.

Uh, the, the one thing though, just to kinda wrap this discussion up on the Dolphins, that I at least was encouraged by for our game that we play for fantasy for this year, is I mentioned last week, like, when you're down two scores in the second half, some coaches will just keep running the football to be like, "This is what we do and this is our identity." It's like, okay, well, you're, you're not even trying to win the game.

At least Bobby Slowik, in this game, let them throw the ball.

Now, granted, in the first half their first down rush rate was very high.

The biggest thing is, is those, not having a touchdown and not having the attempts on the ground.

Again, the talk all off-season when it came to not only this offense and Bobby Slowik, "Oh, we're gonna feed him the ball.

He's gonna be, he's gonna be tired.

We're gonna have to revive him in the locker room in the se- in the, you know, at halftime because we're gonna be giving him all these opportunities." That did not come to fruition, but I do still believe in Davone Chain as a talent, as a running back.

The questions that we all had, we now have a better idea and it validated a lot of the questions.

The biggest question that I now have is about Bobby Slowik.

And Look, people say, I know he was here last year and that he's got some familiarity, he's off the Shanahan tree, and it's all the same things that we hear all the time.

But if you go back to when he was at Houston, down year for C.J. Stroud, and then obviously was fired because the offense was not what it was, and then he comes here.

Telling me, A, what can these players actually handle? Because there's a lot of rookies on this team.

And, you know, what plays can they, in the playbook, can they actually feel comfortable running? So that's kind of a hanging chat on that one.

Two, what kind of creativity is Bobby Slowik having? And what are we actually going to see? Because all the teams are going to see exactly what...

the Raiders did, and they're not going to know how to stop this team.

it is a first impression of sorts for texans offensive coordinator nick cayley because now i think you're kind of starting to understand why the texans hired him on last year because i'll admit it and if you listen to me on my radio show sports talk 790 i admit it all the time that i was not a big fan of hiring nick cayley last year i just felt like this wasn't an on-the-job training type of job I needed to be able to have somebody that had experience calling plays, designing offenses, doing all of those things.

And the fact that you went with a first-time play caller, it to me at the time was like, why didn't you just keep Bobby Slowik then and keep some continuity here? And maybe you just felt like at the time, and clearly they did, that the Bobby Slowik experience needed to come to an end because it wasn't going to get any better.

You regressed from year one to year two.

So clearly D'Amico Ryan said that's enough of that.

Hey, listen, Bobby Slowik's offense was a little bit like Mike McDaniels.

They come from the same tree.

We did see some, we did see some of that creativity with McDaniels.

Um, I, I just didn't like the overall game plan that he called and I just felt like he was just panicking, and it felt like then Malik was pressing a bit too much, um, which I wasn't really expecting.

So yeah, I just thought it was a, you know, a long way to go, but I thought it was a kind of visible start from Bobby Slowik.

You know, Simon, I think you brought up a really good point there about, you know, we've been joking around about these guys doing exactly what they say they're gonna do all off-season long.

Mm.

Um, they, they did not do what they said they were gonna do in this game.

Uh, and that is, I think that is a, a, a really incredibly appropriate point to bring up because it, it means that, you know, Bobby Slowik is gonna have to go to the principal's office and make sure that he understands the assignment.

Um, because in the game I don't f- I feel like he got away from the assignment.

... or you convert for a first down, which is pretty good, and I think that might be something that Bobby Slowik might have learned from Mike McDaniel.

Yeah, the previous regime on second down, uh, one thing you could attribute, like, their lack of success on second down was how predictable they were in, on second downs.

And it was pretty much analytically driven.

Like, I don't care if you would have hired Sean Mannion.

Josh Grisard, Jared Johnson, or Bobby Slowik, or one of the other 17 people you interviewed.

The offense will be better than it was last year simply because guys who had down years will bounce back and have better years.

I've said that from day one.
