Bobby Joe Long

[eerie music] Episode 83, Bobby Joe Long.

Hey, y'all, I'm Heather, and this is Poison Appalachia, the Dark Side of Appalachia.

As always, thank you for listening.

But enough philosophizing.

Let's get on to today's podcast.

Today, I wanted to talk about Bobby Joe Long.

He was born in West Virginia, but his killings happened in Florida.

But since he was born Appalachian, I'm including him in this.

And the fiber evidence is becoming very popular as a science, a forensic science in the 80s.

That's actually how, if you watch the Bobby Joe Long episode, the Tampa murderer, that's how they got him.

Because he was having girls jump in his car, and the carpet fiber from the red floor mats in the front seat – were attaching themselves to the, it was a

carpet and just engine.

All right, here.

Bobby Jo- Bobby Joe Long.

That's gotta be a serial killer.

There's three names.

So all the police had to do was compare the people who visited the bank that day with people who owned a Dodge Magnum.

And when they did that, only one name came up, Robert Joe Long.

He was already under surveillance.

So now they gotta make sure they're gonna get the right guy.

That's all.

That is amazing right there.

For eight months, Bobby Joe Long terrorized the city, killing at least eight women.

But just days after Lisa shares everything she can remember, she hears the words she has been waiting for, the words the whole city has been waiting for.

They were very rare, because most of the time it was kind of a plea, but very, and we saw some really bad ones.

Oh, Bobby Joe Long.

I remember that one.

Oh, that guy was bad.

Now I'm on a journey to uncover how other people survived the moments that should have destroyed them in their own words.

on today's episode of the survivor files lisa marie may the sole survivor of serial killer bobby joe long shares her story of capture and assault to survive lisa had to do more than endure her captor She had to study him.

Every word, every movement, every shift in his mood.

She had to stay calm enough to understand what he wanted and strong enough to convince him of one thing, that she should live.
