A main function of art, after all, is to hold a mirror up to society and allow us to ponder what matters.

Do we decry Bono and U2 for Sunday Bloody Sunday? Do we criticize Clearance Clearwater Revival for standing against the Vietnam War with Fortunate Son? Do we really want to live in a world whereby we censor Sam Cooke's A Change is Gonna Come? Bobby Gillespie was hardly shy in ensuring the Scream's entire set was adorned with messages and chants of solidarity with the people of Palestine.

Politics and music have always been intertwined, and it's for the birds to suggest otherwise.

Which brings me to Ed.

We've mentioned this on the show before, but there's a Bobby Gillespie and Primal Scream interview with Kylie for Select, which is on the cover.

In black and white, it says, come together.

And inside it says, Sheila Delica, which is Sandra Harrison.

But you can definitely hear its influence on things like Screamadelica or parts of that.

Obviously, Bobby Gillespie's heard it at some point.

The, uh, Primal Scream commissioned a lot of remixes for a remix album to accompany this album, and this was, uh, one of the must-haves, I think, for this list.

Uh, Bobby Gillespie from the band said, "When we were discussing possible remixes for our album with our producer, I had a gut feeling that asking Pet Shop Boys to remix 'Innocent Money' might be a good idea.

I felt the song's marriage of a socially conscious lyric sung over an ecstatic disco-fied string, string-laden, stomping rhythm track might appeal to Neil and Chris's sense of pop aesthetics.

And added an unexpected fabulous bonus was that Neil sang on it, and I got to duet with him." Neil, of course, having one of the iconic British pop voices.

So we have a little chat.

Uh, and then Bobby Gillespie walks in-

[laughs] It's great, innit?

We've had a couple of things.

Last year we had, to coincide with the Oasis gigs, we had Bobby Gillespie down and we had David Holmes and we did some things in the stand.

Probably in, I think it was 2012 when the Garp Brooks original gigs were cancelled, we brought in a Garp Brooks tribute act.

One of the more unusual events in Dalymount and, you know, kind of got all the people who had travelled to Dublin and couldn't go to Crowe Park came to Dalymount and drank the bar dry and made us a few quid.

I can't even remember some of the other folks.

Bobby Gillespie and Shane and the president of Ireland.

And everybody does sing.

And even Shane is now in a wheelchair.

And the band Primal Scream, who are featured in the book quite a lot, at the end of last year did a concert in central London where they displayed behind them the image of the Star of David intertwined with the swastika.

uh several people walked out the concert saying they were jewish and were offended um it made national news um across all medias and now that band are going to be celebrating uh their 90s album uh exterminate in the autumn and it features the song swastika eyes um in previous years the singer of primal screen bobby gillespie is the title while that song uh why he's performed that song and i think it'd be interesting for venues to do due diligence before booking that tour or inviting the band to play exactly what they will be performing and what images they will be showing.

I think that would be a really interesting, it could be a pivotal moment in the history of rock and roll.

in the wake of Kanye West, do bands, is due diligence always been shown for any live performance of a band that may be showing Nazi and by default anti-Semitic imagery?

One is like, one day I was garbled in the back garden of Primal Screen, fucking stone cunt.

I don't want to comment necessarily on that, but I've been kind of digging into the shambles that is the train spot in the musical with some original new songs by Bobby Gillespie.

Is this the real thing? It's a real thing.
