Bob Wilkins

The roots of the American Scary Project actually go back to these two items.

In 1995, Planet X Magazine, uh, published an interview with Bob Wilkins, my local host for Creature Features in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Bob had been off the air for about 20 years at that point, and so it was really, really exciting to see that.

Um, and just about that time, uh, Bob Wilkins had started to release some tapes, old tapes of his show from the '70s.

And so there's the interview, and then there's the Creature Features program clips, and that was all really very exciting.

And then I came across this, the Elena Watson book on TV horror movie hosts, and this was really the foundation in a way.

Mostly my fault because I j- I have, I had the enthusiasm, but I didn't really have, uh, the skills for it.

So, uh, fast-forward about five years, and I'm approached by, uh, Sandy Clark, who had been in San Francisco at a, a fantasy convention out here.

... we all have that.

Out here, we had a guy named Bob Wilkins, who didn't dress up at all.

He was a regular guy.

[laughs]

[laughs]

But, uh, John Belushi told a great story on when Saturday Night Live hit, he didn't know...

He, they would get every market, they were number one except where Bob Wilkins was.

Wow.
