Bob Rose

It's 1985.

The key protagonists? Bob Rose and John Kennedy are both returning to coaching.

So Bob Rose is coaching Collingwood.

John Kennedy's returned to coaching to coach North Melbourne.

So it's got a blockbuster feel about it anyway.

So he's a guy that could have been that guy, but he's not.

Bob Rose, who is often termed the greatest magpie of all time, he only plays 150 games in 10 years.

Wins four best and fairest in that time.

But at 27, he leaves to go and captain coach the Wangaratta Rovers.

Who holds the heavyweight title belt as the greatest of the era.

So we're not saying that they were the greatest of their whole career, but we're just using their career as the career span.

So late forties to early fifties is Bob Rose.

Mid fifties to early sixties is Murray Wiedemann who holds the belt, which is ironic because he was actually a wrestler during this period.

It didn't happen for them.

Now, what did it mean to you to be able to present the Cup to Faggs, Dunkley, Andrews and McCluggage? In 03, it was Elsie Rose, Bob Rose's wife, who handed over the Cup.

So it was a Collingwood person that actually did it in 03 for you guys.

What did it mean to you to be able to present it this year?
