We played a clip earlier in the show of Sean Lewis freaking out about Bob Chesney wearing khakis and polos, and I guess it's 'cause he thought he was the original Bob Chesney a few years ago, and unfortunately he's now at San Diego State, and Chesney's the golden boy.

It feels like it's personal for him, but not his team.

I wasn't really thinking of talking about this game, UCLA and San Diego State, as the Bruins are hyped up in the state of California.

Bob Chesney is the golden boy, and we've seen UCLA open from a 10 and a half point favorite up to a 12 and a half point favorite, hosting the Aztecs of San Diego State.

Now, once the golden boy years ago, when he was coaching in the MAC, then went to Colorado to be the offensive coordinator for Deion, is San Diego State head coach Sean Lewis, who had this to say about this week's matchup.

I don't know if this is gonna be the kind of squad that's gonna put teams in a chokehold and go and win games 13 to seven.

But I do think that Cutter Bowley, and specifically couple transfer portal additions that they got, Reed Harris from Boston College and Morion Miller from Colorado, both those guys were just lighting it up.

And again, I will take the opponent into consideration, because I'm not looking at the stats as much as I'm looking at the target share, as much as I'm looking at the workload.

And I'm looking at players who are good elsewhere showing up with a new quarterback and a new offensive system and looking like they're ready to thrive.

He's kind of been thrusted, you know, into the fire and, and taking on high-level competition.

I don't see Ige as a step higher than them, so I think Martinez gets this done either 30-27 decision, or he finds the knockout, uh, in a, in highlight fashion and shows he doesn't need to just go to the judges' scorecards with his movement and technical striking.

Next up, guys, I just think this price is wrong, and I think these fighters should be closer to even.

And then he hit another nice other little touch throw as well.

And then it looks like he's got this year under Bob Chesney, a lot more control at the line of scrimmage before the snap as well.

So you can kind of see him directing, making checks, getting guys lined up, kind of undressing the defense a little bit pre-snap a little bit more this year as well.

So I'm going to be watching those two kind of traits closely because it's not something he ever had to do at Tennessee and yet he didn't do at UCLA last year.

You need a guy that's been around some of these other bigger names.

I like a guy like Bob Chesney.

But I like guys like Bob Chesney.

I like guys from the Rust Belt.

This is a schedule designed for the Bruins to build itself.

towards national championship contention in the bob chesney era whether it's five years whether it's forever to have a window and an opportunity maybe they get one shot with one good team before he bolts for the nfl or decides to go somewhere else Or maybe this is a window in a year where things are wide open and we don't even realize it yet, but the Bruins might be national contenders.

Now, I'm not going to lean into that too much, but the fact that the Bruins are top 25 good, I think it's going to be figured out by the end of week two or week three.

Because if you're 3-0, you've got a thrashing at Cal.

Those early 10 a.m. start times, those are tough for West Coast teams.

Bob Chesney, the head coach at UCLA, when he came from James Madison to UCLA, sought out Sean McVay to talk to him about how to travel east because the USC, UCLA, all those teams struggle with the Big Ten when they go on the road.

After the high-flying Bruins pulled away for an easy road win, it was easy by the time we got to the fourth quarter.

Up at Cal, the Bruins scored 21 points in the fourth quarter on the strength of a couple of interceptions.

UCLA, phenomenal showing.

They're going to be one of the best turnarounds and one of the best stories in college football, and I really trust Bob Chesney, but it was really in the trenches that sold me.
