Boaz

But I do have notes on every one of these that you could go back to.

In verse five it talks about Boaz and Rachab.

In the Old Testament it's called Rahab, and she's the one that was the prostitute that the two spies when they went in to search out Jericho, she's the harlot that took in these two spies and let them down over the city wall.

And they had her put a scarlet, uh, cord out of her window so that when Jericho was defeated, that they would spare her.

She married Obed.

Excuse me, I, I think that Rachel or Rahab, excuse me, the one I was just talking about, I think she was probably the great-grandmother, not just the grandmother, but she was in the lineage of David.

And then Ruth married Boaz, and, um, then Boaz produced Obed, and Obed produced Jesse, and Jesse produced David, and then David produced Solomon.

That's in verse six.

He set up the pillars at the vestibule of the temple.

He set up the pillar on the south and called its name Jachin, and he set up the pillar on the north and called its name Boaz, and on the tops of the pillars was lily work.

Thus the work of the pillars was finished.

Then he made the sea of cast metal.

And one of the names he chooses to write into the ancestry of the Messiah is Rahab.

He says, And Salmon, the father of Boaz, by Rahab.

And Boaz, the father of Obed, by Ruth.

And Obed, the father of Jesse.

And Jesse, the father of David, the king.

Rahab is Boaz's mother.

For all of my listeners who love the story of Boaz and Ruth, Rahab is Boaz's mother.

And here's what else I need you to catch because this is the whole reason we're here today.

She wouldn't possibly know that she was stepping into a completely different story.

Because the Gospel of Matthew tells us that Rahab eventually becomes the mother of Boaz.

And Boaz becomes the father of Obed.

Obed becomes the father of Jesse.

And Jesse becomes the father of David.

Nason became the father of Salmon.

Salmon became the father of Boaz by Rab.

Boaz became the father of Obed by Ruth.

Obed became the father of Jesse.

Jesse became the father of David the king.

Verse 11.

This is after Boaz had finally made a deal with the elders at the gate to have Ruth as his wife.

And here's what the people and the elders said at the gate.

Ruth chapter 4 verse 11.

But now let's look at Ruth chapter four, verse one.

Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there and behold, the close relative said, The close relative, that is the kinsman redeemer, he's called the kinsman redeemer, of whom Boaz spoke was passing by.

So he said, turn aside, friends, sit down here.

And he turned aside and took a seat and he took 10 men.

And he said, I will redeem it.

So there was the kinsman redeemer, who was the closest living relative to the one who gave up the ghost.

Then the second one, it would revert to the second closest relative, which was, in this case, Boaz.

Okay? So Boaz said, on the day you buy the field, you have the right of purchase from the hand of Naomi.
