Utility crews inspecting the equipment discovered the rodent inside the facility.

Utility spokesman Jonah Whiteside said the protection systems worked as intended, automatically opening circuit breakers to isolate the fault and prevent broader grid damage.

Rocky Mountain Power noted that while wildlife mitigation measures are utilized, completely preventing animal interactions with electrical equipment is impossible.

Officials have said in the past that birds and squirrels are far more commonly involved in substation outages than rats, but that's what happened yesterday in Bluffdale.

if it doesn't work out the city council could change the zoning back to the way it was last week the developers behind the theater pulled the application but they told KSL they plan on resubmitting it with changes made that will address some of the public's concerns.

A rat is being blamed for a power outage in Bluffdale.

Rocky Mountain Power says a rat got into the substation that serves the area yesterday, but the system worked the way it was supposed to, isolating the fault and turning off power to protect the rest of the system.

Power was restored a few hours later.

Data centers in the state are prodigious water consumers.

The NSA facility in Bluffdale used more than 126 million gallons in a single year, while Align Data Center's location in West Valley and West Jordan consumed 80 million and 47 million gallons respectively over the same period.

Meta's Eagle Mountain campus more than doubled its water withdrawal between 2021 and 2024, reaching 35 million gallons annually.

Proposed projects, including a controversial box elder county development, have raised alarms over allocations of several million gallons per day.
