Blue economy

The biospace project is an essential project for the EU in the region.

Projects like this help us to deliver on the Blue Economy pillar of our economic strategy.

This project was developed by the Ministry of Fisheries through consultation with the fishers and stakeholders here in Beckway.

It is creating a modern, functional and community-oriented space to support the fishing sector.

So we have Consul General from Canada, Bernadette Jordan, who will be basically having an hour-long conversation with our ecosystem.

She's bringing a blue economy robotics company down to be part of that discussion.

But what's really exciting is that even though mom and dad aren't getting along, say the federal governments, the kids are getting along really well.

There's a lot happening on the state level and on the province level.

I'm hearing that...

Talent is something that is really a challenge for a lot of companies.

When I was in the private sector, I worked a lot in the blue economy and the blue tech space, and just trying to find qualified people is critical.

That's one of the reasons why not only Bryant, but all of the the institutions of higher ed, this intersection with economic development.

Uh, it's a national project.

It's one that involves the federal government, the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, the Nigerian Ports Authority, uh, NNPC are involved.

So it's a national significant project.

I'd like us to, uh, step it down a bit now-

But then there are also many other plans to explore the statewide kind of broader development.

One of, I think the thing that you guys are championing a lot, which is the blue economy, right? So, and I don't think other people are talking about it.

It's just like a Sabah thing.

You know, like Blue Economy is quite synonymous.

I fly the Batik Air and Blue Economy is there.

You know, like the promosi is everywhere, right? So it's something that you guys are associating yourself with.

Can you kind of like highlight for us?

Well, blue economy is a cross-sectorial kind of activities.

Astra has reached OpenAI's critical cybersecurity capability threshold, but its most advanced cyber functions will remain restricted to approved partners and defensive applications.

Marine engineering firm Inmar Technologies and energy developer Optifuel Systems have proposed the Blue Economy Vital 100 millibath Kraken, a movable offshore vessel combining power generation, desalination and an AI data centre.

The ship is designed to produce up to 40 megawatts of electricity for coastal communities, 30 million litres of fresh water daily and 60 megawatts of computing capacity.

Its power system, called Digital Ocean Thermal, would use temperature differences between warm surface water and cold deep sea water, while also recycling heat from onboard computers.

We are just beginning to make waves, and the potential is limitless.

Her choice as a candidate for Africa is not a surprise.

From 2017 to 2024, she served as the African Union Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment.

And according to the African Union, during her tenure, she played an important role in advancing continental policies on food security, climate resilience, and sustainable development.

Before that, between 2000 and 2013, she had served as the Secretary General of the Inter-African Coffee Organization, whose head offices are in the Ivorian city of Abidjan, where she managed the coffee economy of 25 African producing countries.
