The 2014 Panorama film also featured Professor Marks' findings that hypoglycemia in the sick and elderly was not as rare as once imagined.
Louise ShorterHOST
15:13
It also looked at another scientific detail, the immunoassay blood test that had been taken when Ethel Hall fell into a coma.
Louise ShorterHOST
15:22
It was that immunoassay which had indicated she'd been poisoned.
Louise ShorterHOST
15:28
At Colin Norris's trial, neither the prosecution nor the defence had disputed the fact that someone must have deliberately injected her with insulin.
Louise ShorterHOST
16:51
Before his retirement and long before Ethel Hall's death, Professor Marks had established and run the Guildford Laboratory, which performed this test, so he knew their processes intimately.
Louise ShorterHOST
17:04
The focus of his concern wasn't the test that produced the single result, but that further tests weren't then undertaken, which would have definitively established what had led to Ethel Hall's coma.
Mark DalySOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
17:17
So you have grave concerns about the way that Ethyl Hall's blood test was investigated?
Vincent MarksSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
17:22
It could have been done better, and it should have been done better.

So the GPs, they have rules they have to go through, which I respect.
Roderick TaylorHOST
12:26
I went in.
Roderick TaylorHOST

Roderick TaylorHOST
12:31
And I was pretty firm with them when I went in.
Roderick TaylorHOST
12:33
I'm not going to lie.
Roderick TaylorHOST
16:31
You would have to set up an actual nurse appointment to get your shots.
Roderick TaylorHOST
16:34

Roderick TaylorHOST
16:35

Robert BreedloveGUEST
16:06

Robert BreedloveGUEST
16:10
You know, my blood work is okay.
Robert BreedloveGUEST
16:11
And like, all right, let me press the gas a little more.
Robert BreedloveGUEST
16:14
And so I was doing DHT derivatives, primobolin, masturon, testosterone still.
Robert BreedloveGUEST
16:20
Testosterone is the base for all of these anabolic cycles.
Robert BreedloveGUEST
16:25
And I was able to get in incredibly good shape, you know, and I did some photo shoots and, um, It was, I don't know, just like a kind of a fun hobby experience thing to do.
Robert BreedloveGUEST
16:37
And then I learned a lot about my body, how I respond to these compounds, what effects it had on my blood work, etc.
Robert BreedloveGUEST
16:48
And so now...
TinaHOST
1:53
Yeah, this is a follow up with that.
TinaHOST
1:55
Of course, you know, we all have gone to our primary care physician and ordered, you know, some baseline blood work on an annual basis.
TinaHOST
2:05
And what, you know, we're looking for is what the majority of our population looks for is in the normal range.
TinaHOST
2:14
But it's also like, we want to delve a little deeper.

9 MINS LATER

TinaHOST
11:44
So you have to be proactive with that because again, you can walk around with inflammation and not even realize it, right? I mean, we all are.
TinaHOST
11:52
It just depends on, to a certain degree, it just depends on where that goes from, again, you know, normal to below normal range, you may not, you know, you may not realize it.
TinaHOST
12:06
So that's where it comes in with your blood work.
Steve MedinaHOST
12:08
Right.
Sten EkbergSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER

Everyone knows today that insulin resistance is a big problem.
Sten EkbergSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
0:06
But how do you know that you have it? Do you have to go get blood work or are there certain things that you can tell anyway? Today we're going to talk about that and we're going to explain it so that you have a good understanding.
Sten EkbergSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
0:18
Coming right up.
Sten EkbergSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
0:22
When I started planning this video I wanted to see what was available in the medical world so I went online and I looked up the Mayo Clinic signs and symptoms of insulin resistance and I had to say I was surprised when the Mayo Clinic says that it generally has no signs and symptoms.

5 MINS LATER

Sten EkbergSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
6:08
It's not so fun for the people who have it, but it's sort of interesting how far reaching these effects can be.
Sten EkbergSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
6:17
androgen there's an androgen shift in females the females turn more masculine that's an androgen shift and what happens there is there's a an enzyme called lyase that is up regulated by insulin and in females it has the tendency to convert estrogen into testosterone so the female body makes estrogen but the insulin starts a process to convert it into testosterone so now they have testosterone excess more testosterone than a female should have and this affects as many as 10% of the women in childbearing age because of that with the testosterone with a hormone imbalance then they can't get pregnant so this is actually the number one reason for infertility in the western world is insulin resistance they also get hirsutism or hirsutism however you want to pronounce that and what that is it's unwanted hair growth So males and females grow hair in slightly different places and especially males when they get older and they have more testosterone then the hair stops growing in places where you might want it and it starts growing more so in the places you don't want it such as out of the ears and out of the nose and on the chin.
Sten EkbergSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
7:51
so with females getting this androgen shift and this testosterone dominance they start getting that same kind of unwanted hair growth in males the opposite thing happens so in males there is something called aromatase upregulation so it's a different enzyme but it's the same sort of effect but opposite so insulin resistance a lot of insulin upregulates aromatase which in men converts testosterone to estrogen so it's the the kind of the same problem but opposites females turn more masculine and men turn more feminine as a result of that with too much estrogen then men can get erectile dysfunction and they can get what's commonly known as man boobs and we did a video on that and explained that in a little more detail also and it's so important to understand these principles because a lot of guys go in and get their blood work and they get a hormone panel and they see that they're low in testosterone So they give them a cream, a testosterone cream to start rubbing, but in the presence of insulin, they're just upregulating their aromatase and all the testosterone that they're rubbing in the cream gets converted into estrogen.
Sten EkbergSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
9:19
So they're just making the problem worse if they don't understand this.
Cary JackHOST
