It would have done any man's heart good to see the merriment that took place here as we banqueted on the grass under the trees.

we made the woods ring with bursts of laughter at the songs of little wagstaff and the merry undertaker after dinner too the young folks would play at blind man's buff and hide and seek and it was amusing to see them tangled among the briars and to hear a fine romping girl now and then squeak from among the bushes the elder folks would gather round the cheesemonger and the apothecary to hear them talk politics for they generally brought out a newspaper in their pockets to pass away time in the country.

They would now and then, to be sure, get a little warm in argument, but their disputes were always adjusted by reference to a worthy old umbrella-maker and a double-chin, who, never exactly comprehending the subject, managed somehow or other to decide in favor of both parties.

All empires, however, says some philosopher or historian, are doomed to changes and revolutions.

The family never got over it.

They were immediately smitten with the passion for high life, set up a one-horse carriage, put a bit of gold lace round the errand-boy's hat, and had been the talk and detestation of the whole neighborhood ever since.

They could no longer be induced to play at Pope Joan or Blind Man's Buff.

They could endure no dances but quadrilles.

But Tilly and Prue were much depressed and didn't recover their spirits till the dinner was over and the evening fun well underway.

Blind Man's Buff, Hunt the Slipper, Come Philander, and other lively games soon set everyone bubbling over with jollity.

And when Eff struck up Money Musk on his fiddle, old and young fell into their places for a dance.

All down the long kitchen they stood, Mr. and Mrs. Bassett at the top, the twins at the bottom, and then away they went, heeling and toeing, cutting pigeon wings, and taking their steps in a way that could convulse modern children with their new-fangled romps called dancing.

Hmm.

And I had a few friends in the village who would come round, we'd play, we used to play Blind Man's Buff.

Mm-hmm.

Um, I don't think children these days play much of that anymore.

This sort of hide-and-seek amused people at first, but by and by it began to get on their nerves.

And if you don't know what that means, ask Mother to tell you next time you are playing Blind Man's Buff when she has a headache.

Then the dragon got into the habit of cracking his tail, as people crack whips, and this also got on people's nerves.

Then, too, little things began to be missed, and you know how unpleasant that is, even in a private school, and in a public kingdom it is, of course, much worse.

It's Blind Man's Bluff, isn't it? And, um, b- but Blind Man's Buff, I was thinking.

It's, it's an entirely different thing.

Um, I do, I do like the, the clown makeup, and Campbell Singer looks fantastic and, you know, good, good for him.

This, this isn't that.

Even sort of gi- even if they were able to do size, which they can't, the doll's house is amazing.

But if, if, if, you know, if it had been a giant, you know, Blind Man's Bluff or d- absolutely massive, dwarfing them, that would've been interesting and, you know, a sort of, again, a terrifying...

Where t- where our, our things in childhood that were small then and look normal size to us, and as we get bigger look sort of, you know, tiny.
