Blessed Assurance

Yeah, I did know that

... out of all the 500 hymns she wrote, she's most famous for Blessed Assurance.

And so bit of trivia, a lot of people, they don't know who Joseph Knapp was, but they know who his mother was-

We're going to sing a few songs starting out with Blessed Assurance.

So, blessed assurance.

Yet she said yes to God's calling to write hymns.

She penned over 8,000 songs, including Blessed Assurance and To God Be the Glory.

Listen, Blessed Assurance is my favorite hymn.

One of my other favorite hymns, Fanny Crosby, listen, is To God Be the Glory.

Her yes provided the church with a rich psalm book of praise.

I'm not necessarily preaching through this passage, but it gets us in the right frame of mind for what we will be talking about.

We're starting a new series this week called Blessed Assurance.

It's going to be a more brief series than what we're used to, but it's It's extremely important and fundamental to the Christian life, the doctrine of assurance.

But not merely the intellectual doctrine of assurance.

Why continue to live on the brink of hell and judgment for your sin when the Lord Jesus stands willing to save? So repent today, trust in Christ.

We're about to sing a song, and I wonder if you can guess what song we're about to sing.

It's called Blessed Assurance.

Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine.

From the angels' ministry to Jacob at Bethel is derived a part of our hymn, Nearer My God to Thee.

Angels to beckon me, and possibly also the picture of descending angels drawn by Fanny Crosby in Blessed Assurance.

It is the office of the angels to guard us through the night as well as the day.

Angel guards from thee surround us, spreading their white wings above.
