Blaster Master

I remember playing, gosh, it was like a little tank on wheels and you jump around a lot.

Oh, Blaster Master.

Blaster Master, yes.

okay so those three games i can distinctly recall are like i could beat them all but they took hours upon hours upon hours you know there was no mario zooming to the end or something but yeah all those three games were uh and if they had not come from my friend's selection i don't think i ever would have gone out and got blaster master or biotic commando or anything but uh you know when you're 12 years old and all of a sudden you have 20 games and your parents are like well you know we spent a lot of money on that Yeah, I didn't get a lot of games for a couple years.

So it was those same 20 games over and over and over again.

Other than Dragon Quest, I'd be able to get for holidays or birthdays.

... that you remember everything that happened in Zelda.

You remember everything that happened in Blaster Master.

Mm-hmm.

You remember everything that happened in, you know, uh, uh, you know, p- Bionic Commando, right? So you have legit memories that will stay there.

[laughs]

[laughs]And this game, Metal Mech Man and Machine, uh, you do play as both man and machine in the sense of, uh, from the Blaster Master approach, where, uh, part of the game is played in the machine, and then eventually you'll need to hop out of the machine and be the little guy, uh, to do things that the mech can't do in the level in order to, uh, progress properly.

And, uh, I'm sure we'll spend the rest of the episode talking about whether or not that works, but just to give a little bit more of an overview, this was developed by Sculptured Software.

Um, I thought it was Sculpture Software, but there is a D at the end of that.

I'm a little mechanoid.

[laughs]

So yeah, the e- the eject button is basically the, uh, the neat trick of the game, and unfortunately we've seen this trick before with Blaster Master, but you start out in, um, in the mech, and at any point you can pop Tony out of the hatch and run around on foot.

The mech is obviously and rightfully tougher, but, uh, like, significantly tougher.

If you've never played the game, it's a top-down sorta, you know, three-quarter view, like Zelda-type of game.

It's al- it's made by the same people that made Blaster Master, which I love Blaster Master.

Blaster Master's a great game.

It's sorta that same kinda, you know, that, that real blocky movement.

He moves very slow, which I, I do kinda hate still, but even in the European version, he's a little faster, but not much.
